4 May 2006 In: American Idol

Who, besides Wendy, sees something scary in this quote from Paris Bennett. (Don’t worry, I bolded it for you):

“I am definitely working on an album once the American Idol tour is over and the (Idol) CD is doing well, God willing,” the 17-year-old singer, who doesn’t yet have a record contract, told reporters Thursday. “I will be going back on another tour to promote my album; I want to do a lot of voiceovers and I want to do acting.” [link]

Now, c’mon. Voiceovers for what? Chicken Little 2?

miles for miracles for samson

4 May 2006 In: Friends

Last year, I did The 3 Day walk in Boston with Erika and her mom, Marie. They were awesome, and it was so terrific to complete such an amazing event with them by my side - almost like family. Even if Marie happened to wear a Yankees hat the whole time!

This year, they’re doing a different walk. One for Sammy.

Their 7-mile walk, Miles for Miracles, will raise money for Children’s Hospital Boston. Sammy spent 19 days there after he was born due to congenital heart defect that required surgery and constant monitoring. Now, he’s home and happy and super handsome.

Read what Erika has to say about the walk and why she, Jay, & Sammy are doing it. And then donate what you can.

This is exciting.

The Twins are playing the Yankees in New York over Labor Day weekend. And guess who’s going to be there? Yes, you’re right. It’s me.

My super terrific friend Regina emailed me yesterday with the info, and really, who could turn down a long weekend in New York/New Jersey with people that feel like family, AND see the Twins/Yankees play?

Of course, I can’t stop thinking about it now and it’s still four months away. Like I needed another distraction from work!

And I’m now taking application for dog-sitting over that weekend.

Dear Internet!

Do any of you watch Lost?! WHAT! JUST! HAPPENED! If you saw that coming, without reading spoilers, then you are awesome!

I already have my theory formulated after watching the show, but holy crap! Just holy crap!

I could talk a million years about this show, except right now I’m too busy saying Holy Crap!

And just for good measure - ! ! ! ! ! !

Careful: Spoiling information in the comments if you haven’t seen it yet!

softball season is here

3 May 2006 In: Me

Tomorrow night is our first softball game. I’m not really looking forward to it. It’s probably because I didn’t go to any of the three practices that we had, but I think it’s more than that.

Honestly, if I had to pick between hitting the gym and playing an hour long game of softball, I’d pick the gym in a heartbeat.

I’m not even really down with staying after the game and drinking like I have the past couple of years.  I’d much rather be sweating my ass of in the gym with the dude that wears the Abercrombie & Fitch t-shirt every day and the boy that changes shirts three times in the course of his hour long workout. Those are my people now and the gym is my place. The softball field just doesn’t benefit me as much as it used to.

(Is this the best retirement speech ever, or what?)

I’ll go to the gym tonight and then spend a while at the batting cages a few miles away, just to make sure that I still know how to swing a bat. Then, i’ll go home and try to find my glove and my cleats so I can actually look like a real player tomorrow.  Since I missed all the practices, I’ll sit on the bench until there are about two innings left, and then I’ll go in as catcher and just fuck with the batters’ heads long enough to make them want to hit me in the face with their aluminum bat.

It’ll be a good night. And then there will be 9 games after that, which will play out exactly the same.

Let’s watch as the American Idol producers try to cram 10 performances in an hour, when every other Tuesday, they’ve always ran short on time. I’m guessing Paula’s been given a time limit to her gushing and we’ll hopefully see very limited filler videos.

I’ve not been watching movies like I used to watch them, mainly in part because of Tivo and the three or four hours of TV that I usually have waiting for me each evening. Don’t worry, I don’t watch every episode of Trading Spaces or Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. I just like to keep recording them in case I need something to watch. Because my 200+ DVDs couldn’t possibly be enough.

monday = lists. always.

  • Shaquille and Kobe both had daughters on the same day. How cute.
  • My softball games start on Thursday. Oddly enough, this year, I’d rather just go to the gym instead of stand around kicking dirt for an hour.
  • WordPress makes it so easy for me to change themes, but because I don’t understand PHP fully, it makes it hard for me to truly customize things exactly how I want.
  • PHP and Astrology - those will be the next books I buy. I need some type of reading material here since I let my subscription to People run out last week.
  • This 84 hours of straight rain is killing me. All I want to do is sleep sleep sleep.
  • This bulletpoint is for local people only - Please keep the evening of May 20th open. We’re having a fundraising BBQ at my place. It’ll be the best ever. And boob-related, no doubt.

gym pressure

30 Apr 2006 In: Gym

Hey, guess who did everything on her Sunday-to-do-list? Yeah, me.

Tomorrow is May 1, as you probably know, but it’s also the day that I have to go to the gym 8 times a month in order to save $20/month through my health insurance on my gym membership. Why, yes, I do enjoy extra prepositional phrases.

Eight times a month is only twice a week, but of course knowing that I’m required to be there will be even more awesome than it is now when I just convince myself that I’m required to be there.

In April, I went to the gym 10 times. That’s actually disappointing! Instead of posting all of my workouts here, like I had been, I switched over to recording it on a special little Google Calendar. It’s cute that way and also easier for me to track.

You know, just in case you thought I was slacking in the workout department and all.

Dear Noah:

Would you mind emailing me over the plans to your ark? Fax would work, too, if it would be more convenient for you.

L8r Sk8r,
Wendy

It has been raining for 48 straight hours here.

The pro? Awesome sleeping. Even for the mutt.

The con? We can’t go outside and play without both of us getting wet, and one of us smells really bad when we’ve been in the rain for a while.

My plans for the day? Watch my dog chew on his toys. Go grocery shopping. Go to the gym. Watch it rain.

I love days like this. I just don’t like entire weekends like this.
