That is so frickin' cool. Not even so much the Kevin Love part of it but, as you said, that your co-workers at all levels pay attention and care.

Just felt the need to give you some props! :) We may have different political opinions, but I have a ton of respect for you, your convictions, and how you approach them. If people from both sides of the spectrum were more like you, the world would be a better place...I truly mean that. Honored to call you a friend.

Interestingly, the guy who does it is straight. I know him - his name is Nick.

I think the idea is to bring attention to the issue - but its important to do that with clear intention.

According to social research, social movements work best when they use creative tactics that get media attention - in that regard it is helpful... but it can't stop there - it has to clearly promote change, which it isn't doing.

You should really let Nick know how you feel.

I agree - it was funny the first one or two times, but now it just reinforces the idea that gay people are basically the irresponsible, screwing, partying hippies of our time. I don't see these glitter bombing acts as a way of opening a dialogue as much as it's a way to infuriate the people who are already overly concerned with who is sticking what into whom.

It's a slippery slope because I understand that there are people out there who feel as though LGBTQ people have something to prove & I don't know exactly what that is or how it can be done, but these acts of glitter terrorism prove absolutely nothing. Can't we bomb politicians with stories of thriving gay adoptive parents or something??

Shoot me a line if you want any of my advice on raising a boy... mine has turned out pretty darn good if I do say so myself... not that I claim to have all the answers nor do I claim to have done it all right, but I've always got advice.
From what I see, (which granted is very little), you are doing a great job at co-parenting your boy.

As a mother, this makes me ill too. What surprised me, though, is the pie chart of different types of abuse. When I think "child abuse," the first type that comes to mind is physical abuse. But that is only 11% of all abuse. I wish they would have defined what "neglect" is, if that's what 59% of abuse is categorized as. Leaving children unattended? Not bothering to feed them? It's sad.

I was reading the results of that small 20-year study about how researchers found 0% of Lesbian couples guilty of child abuse, and some troll commented that "duh, of course. Women don't abuse children." As someone who was taken away from her mother by the state due to abuse and neglect, I found this graphic weirdly comforting. As the republican party edges closer to a group of extremists, I really worry about our future. Take away birth control, take away elective termination, take away the *choice* to procreate, and child abuse is going to SKYROCKET.

Working in the adoption field for the past 4 months has been really rewarding, but OH MY GOD the things that people do to children is staggering. It really defies logic how people can do such terrible things to innocent children & screw them up for the rest of their lives. The fact that kids waste away in foster care or residential treatment facilities until they're 18 & sent to independent living programs because they're so damaged by the abuses they sustained in their youth is so heart wrenching I can't even wrap my mind around it. It's made me more understanding of "weird" adults because you never know which ones are weird because of situations like these & it's way more common than we all realize.
