bowling isn’t always for cheaters

November 3rd, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in Me, Videos

My unexplained love for Justin Bieber and my completely justified adoration for Shaquille O’Neal (I named a dog after him when I was a kid! RIP Shaq) have both come to an end. Those two pantywaists use the bumpers while bowling:

If you’re not three, you don’t get to use the bumpers! What kind of sad sacks do that?

My point, before looking up bowling YouTube videos, was me talking about my bowling scores thus far in our Sanctioned League, where I’m a proud 1/4 of The PIN15 Club. My high score, which is documented in Bowling Buddy (an app for my Android phone), is 167. My goal of 200 isn’t that far off, but my inconsistency might have something to do with that.

Right now, I’m averaging 127.72. The first week of bowling, my average was 143. Now, that would have been REALLY awesome had that not been the week that our handicaps were being decided. I’d really love to get that average up around 150, mainly because I know I can.

The thing about bowling is it’s not really a sport that requires a lot of strength or a lot of speed or a lot of coordination, for that matter. It requires that I do the same thing, you know, 30+ times in a row. You wouldn’t think it’d be that hard, right?

Know how there are just certain days that really stick out in your head for one reason or the other?

March 28, 1992

I was fresh from turning 14 years old and was babysitting for a lawyer. The kids were sleeping, I’d already gone through the dad’s Playboy collection (hidden in the kids’ toy room, mind you…), and had no idea when to expect the parents home. It was typical to never know when they’d be home, but I was 14 and liked getting paid three bucks an hour, so I didn’t really care.

I was sitting in their kitchen, watching the 13-inch TV on the counter. It was the only TV I could get to work, aside from the one in their bedroom, but the idea of lounging in the bed just seemed kind of weird. The cable was spotty at best on the TV, but I stumbled across a basketball game.

This basketball game:

That’s when I really, really fell in love with basketball.

And that’s also when I fell in love with Duke and Christian Laettner and Bobby Hurley, but that’s another story.

real estate bailout

At the end of last year, both of my co-workers, team members, colleagues — whatever they’re called. I just know there are three of us in my area of the business and two of them bought houses last year (and got married in about six months time, which made me have small seizures, but, hey, whatevs) so they could qualify for that gigantic tax credit bonus or whatever it was. While the $8,000 (or whatever it was) credit sounded like an awesome little incentive, for me, it just meant I’d be responsible for that much more upkeep on a place and I’m not ready for that kind of commitment.

I sure can appreciate the whole Real Estate Bailout situation, if it’s going to eventually help the economy and fix jobs and all that jazz. However, I can’t help but start to wonder if it’s all some Ponzi scheme. (I don’t really think it’s a Ponzi scheme. I just like the word Ponzi.) Honestly, I suppose if I were in a financial situation where owning a home seemed like a good idea (or I had more than just my charm and good lucks to put down for a down payment), now would be the time to do it and get in under the April 30th deadline for the credit.

I don’t really know what led me to this whole mortgage research/house purchasing information soap box, but I did find this video helpful in it’s explanation (YouTube should not be for everyone to use, by the way…):

After you watch the above video (or at least part of it), you should go here and vote for Pete as the MVP! Pete was our foster dog through Pet Project Rescue. When he lived with us, his name was Merlyn and is pretty much tied as my favorite foster dog we’ve had so far. Yay, Pete!

the list could go on forever

Let me tell you a few things that make me uncomfortable to watch.

1. Someone throwing up.

2. Someone making a complete ass of themselves on TV.

3. Dogs humping inanimate objects (or anything for that matter).

4. Digger Phelps (Clemson’s Men’s basketball coach) dancing to a Kelly Clarkson song:

my mind just exploded

Why didn’t someone tell me Brett Favre was just a certifiably inside spaz?

Dude watches American Idol and sings about it after he wins a very important playoff game. I love him a lot. Even if he is 40 years old and blah blah blah.
