$30 and the weekend

June 22nd, 2007 | Comments Off | Posted in The 3 Day '07

Man! I am only $30 away from hitting my minimum/mandatory donation amount for The 3 Day! You have to raise $2200 before you can even do the walk, and right now, I’m at $2170. I need that $30 before the Expo tomorrow, so I can add a new sticker to my lanyard! And trust me, for The 3 Day, that’s a gigantic deal.

I wish I had one of those neat skills (like knitting or, um, anything), where I could offer something to the first person that donates enough to put me over $2200, but I don’t. I definitely have to learn something for next year!
And that brings me to my weekend plans!

Tonight: Lynx game with Stephanie and Suzi, post-game dancing with the Vajayjay Girls!

Tomorrow: Brunch at Longfellow Grill with a good chunk of Team Boobylicious, followed by the aforementioned 3 Day Expo, for which Melissa is coming into town! I will probably need a nap during the afternoon, before heading out to show Melissa a Minneapolis-good time with a visit to Matt’s Bar, and various other locations which have yet to be determined.

Sunday: Pride Parade and Festival in Loring Park. And possibly the Block Party, but I only want to go to see Frenchie Davis, and I don’t know if I want to sweat that much for someone that got kicked off of American Idol for doing porn.

i seriously want to shave it

June 13th, 2007 | 3 Comments | Posted in The 3 Day '07

Remember how I said I was going to shave my head if I could raise $5000 for The 3 Day this year? Things are looking grim right now! Granted, I’ve already raised $1700 $1950 from some absolutely generous donations from my friends and family, and there are still a few fundraisers left to go. As with previous years, I only have to raise $2200 to actually do the walk, and I’m sure I’ll have no problem with that.

Upcoming fundraisers?

  • a garage sale June 15-17
  • a ginormous fundraiser in St. Louis on July 13
  • Applebee’s pancake breakfast in St. Louis Park on July 28
  • a yet to be scheduled silent auction

As confident as I am in our team’s fundraising skills, I don’t think all of that is going to generate $3300. Plus, I have to take into consideration that some of my teammates are struggling just to hit their minimum amount, and if it’s up to me, everyone on my team is gonna hit their minimum.

Do you folks, my highly esteemed and most lovely readers, have any ideas? They can be team suggestions or individual ones; I’m not picky at all. I just want to raise some more moolah for boobs.

Maybe I can sell my wisdom teeth on Ebay? Or train Riley to do paintings? See, I’m seriously open to any suggestions at all!

i’m feeling inadequately prepared

The 3 Day is still over three months away, but I’ve already started dreaming about it. Last night’s dream was actually nightmare, which makes me think I should probably start training and fundraising just a little bit harder.

I dreamt it was the day of the walk and we were all meeting at opening ceremonies. I got there and realized I was wearing flip flops and a sweater, which is not exactly the attire I’d wear during The 3 Day. I was panicking, and then I realized I’d forgotten to buy tennis shoes at all, so it was either flip flops or nothing.

THEN (I know, it gets worse!), I realized I didn’t have my 3 Day credentials, which means no name badge, no stickers, and no way for them to officially check in and out of camp every night.

But the most terrible part in all the dream? We didn’t have route cards yet and Jenni didn’t even care.

I realize this dream will mean absolutely nothing to anyone that hasn’t actually done The 3 Day, but rest assured, I woke up in a sweat this morning.

i’ll buzz it off for boobs

I’ve been going back and forth on this little scheme of mine for the past few days. I haven’t been really sold on it, and I think the longer I think about, the more I’m gonna consider it a little too carefully. So this is how it’s gonna be.

If I can raise $5000 for The 3 Day Walk this year, I’ll shave my head.

Seriously. My parents weren’t keen on the idea, and my aunt may have peed her pants when I tried to hypothetically ask how quickly hair grows back, but it’s for an incredible cause. And I’m fortunate enough to be able to grow my hair back.

Last year, I raised just over $3000 by holding fundraisers and receiving generous donations from all of you – my friends and family. This year, I want to bump it up a few notches and I’m obviously going to need some help doing it. I figure the least I can do to those who donate to my efforts is to give them the pleasure (?) of knowing I’ll be walking around with no hair for a while.

A few things to note:

  1. I have to raise the money before the walk takes place, which is August 24-26.
  2. I’m not using a straight-edge razor, but I’ll buzz it nice and close. Think Natalie Portman or Demi Moore.
  3. There will undoubtedly be photographs and videos for documentation purposes.
  4. You wanna help shave it? Be my guest.
  5. This isn’t meant to make light of people who lose their hair as a result of any type of cancer treatment.
  6. There are probably more, but this is all I can think of for now!

I’ve raised $900 so far. I’m gonna need some more donations if this hair’s coming off. Here’s where you go to donate.

I realized this weekend that I’d been neglecting my weekend wrap-ups that I enjoy so much.

Friday: There were five us in the office for most of the afternoon. The other 25ish people in our department were nowhere to be found. It made for a long afternoon. On the drive home, I started stressing about the buckets of rain that were coming down, because I had half a dozen people coming over to my place at 7 and hadn’t really done enough cleaning to entertain the masses in casa de Wendy. I was kind of counting on a dry night and planning on using the picnic tables outside my apartment.

It ended up cleaning up for the night and we had a good time eating meat products filled with cheese, beating a piñata, and grilling inappropriate things on the community grill. Also, we met some of my neighbors that live in the other building. One does amateur wrestling and proclaimed loudly that you could probably “grill poop and then a faggot would eat it”. Hey, that makes perfect sense to me. And it also explains why I will be avoiding the amateur version of Andre the Giant as much as possible. And I do love it that Riley loves my friends so much.

I also mentioned my plans for the best fundraising schtick ever. Stay tuned for that.

Saturday: Man, I slept a lot and man, it was nice. In the afternoon-tide, I ventured over to Matt’s, where our caravan would depart en route to Finals Fest, held in River Falls, WI. Luckily, the rain dried up while we ventured less than 10 miles into Wisconsin. By the time we were cowboy hat shopping at the gas station, it was shaping up to be a great night to be outside. There were seven of us, all over the age of 25. When we arrived at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls campus, we were at least 5 years older than the majority of the crowd. It was concern, yet entertaining.

I’d heard talk about Mike Doughty from both Jenni and Jodi, but never really listened to anything of his. How I regret that decision now. Dude was awesome! His voice was jacked up, so he stopped in the middle of a couple songs and apologized, but it didn’t matter. Now I know that anytime he’s around, I’m there. Live music is the best way to discover someone new to add to your music collection – I guarantee that.

Closing the show? Reel Big Fish. Holy awesome, why has nobody told me about these guys before? This is my kind of music! Needless to say after Saturday, I spent a lot of money on music. I guess it averages out, considering the concert was free.

After the concert, we headed into downtown River Falls and drank a lot. I wish I could tell you more, but quite frankly, I only remember bits and pieces that would make me look like an alcoholic college student. And I’m not in college, so, well, you get the picture.

Sunday: More sleeping. Watching the Twins screw around badly and lose to the Red Sox. Dinner with my Work BFFâ„¢ and her roommate. More sleeping. Desperate Housewives action – best last scene with Susan ever. And again with the sleeping.

I’m tired today, but have a ton of work to do. Riley’s at the vet for his comprehensive exam and I pick him up after work. He’s gained 5 pounds since being on his new dog food, which puts him up to 75 fat pounds. I call him Fatty, but in reality, he’s not fat at all.

I’m slowly uploading the weekend’s pictures to Flickr. I knew you were going to ask.

another fundraising success

May 2nd, 2007 | Comments Off | Posted in The 3 Day '07

Booby Trivia II took place last night and was an incredible success. We pulled in $1056, making it even more profitable then the original Booby Trivia.

After a brief stop at The Local, Jenni, Matt, and I got to the Block E Hooters shortly after 6, where we found a good chunk of the team already waiting. Jenni and I headed to the bathroom to change into our I ♥ BOOBS shirts (which can be purchased here), and as we were changing, we heard a server in the other stall crying on her cell phone because there was a party of 50 coming in. Yeah, that was our party of 50. It’s probably a good thing she wasn’t our server!

We threw some pictures from previous 3 Days throughout the section we’d been given to invade, set up a table for people to register, pinned dozens of pins all over our shirts, and got ready for the masses. We had about 60ish people there, who were all great. A lot of the teams were repeat players, which obviously means we’re either doing things right in the fundraising world, or we just have a great group of friends. It’s probably more the latter. When you have the same friends that show up at every single fundraising event we have, regardless of the location or the amount they have to donate or the time, it’s sometimes overwhelming in the best way possible.

I always get stressed out a couple of days before a fundraiser. I never want my friends to be disappointed or not have a good time, but I should know by now that there’s no need to worry. If there’s one thing we’re good at, it’s making sure people have a good time while they’re helping us towards our fundraising goals. And talking about boobs.
Hooters as a perfect location for Trivia II. Clint the manager was more than helpful, and our main server Dani was unbelievably fast, friendly, and even interested in joining our team. I don’t thing anybody could say a bad thing about how things ran on that end.

Another awesome fundraiser in the books. Thank you so much to everyone who came and/or bought raffle tickets.

hooters trivia – may 1

April 23rd, 2007 | Comments Off | Posted in The 3 Day '07

Next week is our next big fundraiser and, as usual, you’re all invited! We’re having our second installment of bar trivia at the Block E Hooters located in downtown Minneapolis. You can see all of the details here and then get your team registered here.

Once again, the winning team gets to split $100 in cash. We’ll have various other prizes for trivia and a door prize or two as well.

In the very near future we’ll be announcing our raffle, which will include some incredible gift certificates, and my personal favorite – tickets to a Twins game, generously donated to us by the owners of Hubert’s Bar & Grill, which is conveniently enough the last place we had trivia. See? People like us!

If you’re in town and looking for something to do on a Tuesday night other than watch American Idol (Hi, Tivo it.), this is the place you should be! Boobs and beer and trivia – there’s gotta be at least one of those you’re a fan of, and if not, you’ll be supporting an amazing cause just for being there!

trivia the second – hooters edition

April 5th, 2007 | Comments Off | Posted in The 3 Day '07

Being gone a week and banishing myself from thinking about fundraising the entire time really gets me out of whack when it comes to The 3 Day! But guess what? We’ve got another one in less than a month!

Hooters (at Block E in downtown Minneapolis) is hosting Trivia Night for us on Tuesday, May 1st. Feel free to register in advance to make sure we can reserve a spot for you. Things got a little crowded at Hubert’s, so pre-reigstering is definitely to your advantage! It’s $5 a person and the winning team will once again win a cash prize of $100!

As usual, any and all proceeds will go towards Team Boobylicious’ campaign for the 2007 Breast Cancer 3 Day Walk, taking place August 24-26.

For those keeping tabs, we’re at $6160 as a team (our team goal is $30,000), and I’m up to $635 of my required $2200 (although, my personal goal is $3000).

Go boobs!
