bowling for boobs

April 18th, 2006 | 3 Comments | Posted in The 3 Day '06

Okay, Internet, listen up. You know I’ve been all gung-ho about The 3 Day for the last six months, and you’ve all been incredibly supportive. That is why I love you all so very much. You all seriously rock.

This weekend, Team Boobylicious presents: bowling for the cure.

If you’re a local twodolla.org reader, it would be the best thing ever if you would stop by for a little bowling action. Bring your kids, your friends, your family, your co-workers, your tricks, your hos, and everyone else you see along the way. We’ll have something for everyone and it will also be a great chance for you to meet a whole bunch of Team Boobylicious.

We have some terrific raffle prizes, all-you-can bowl, bingo, and lots of talk about boobs. There’s more information if you click here, and please email me with any questions you might have.

If you want to buy raffle tickets in advance, you sure can! You don’t have to be present to win. Just email me and I can send you all of the Paypal information. Team Boobylicious is all about convenience. And boobs.

We’ve just raised our team goal to $30,000, and I’ve raised my personal goal to $2500. We’re overachievers AND we’re awesome.

Please don’t hesitate to pass this information along. The more the merrier, even if they are strangers!

leftover truffles

April 9th, 2006 | Comments Off | Posted in The 3 Day '06

Guess what? We have extra truffles from a fundraiser that we did Friday evening. Yes, we could eat them, but as hard as I work in the gym, the last thing I want to do is shove dozens of chocolate balls down my mouth. And, yes, I had to stop typing three times while writing that last sentence because I was laughing so hard.

The truffles are really good. It’s dark chocolate ganache dipped in semisweet chocolate, and finished off with the cutest pink ribbon you ever did see. Really. And I even helped make them, if you count stirring chocolate on top of the stove helping.

Anyway, if you want leftover truffles, you can have them for the same price we sold them for around Valentine’s Day – $20/dozen. Send me an email with your address, and I’ll throw some in the mail for you. We can figure out paymention options and that kind of thing.

I love boobs. And it’s a good thing, or all of this fundraising would be for nothing!*

*I kid.

hooters

April 8th, 2006 | Comments Off | Posted in The 3 Day '06

So, a few of the Team Boobylicious girls and I did a little fundraiser thing tonight, where we stood in the skyways of downtown Minneapolis and begged people to buy truffled and/or pink wristbands. We didn’t really turn a huge profit, but we did make a huge connection.

The building we were in is going to be the home of the Twin Cities’ second location of Hooters. It just so happened that the owners (I think?) of this new restaurant and the other Hooters we have in my neck of the woods stopped by our booth. They’re donating some raffle prizes, with the possibility of even some help in raising money for such an amazing cause like The 3 Day. So very excited.

Hooters + Breast Cancer Awareness = HOW CAN YOU GO WRONG?

Also, thank you so much to Roni for throwing in the winning bid for the latest scarf knitted by The Cuz.

The 3 Day and the work I put into it is always rewarded so heavily by little gestures like this. Sometimes, I think I get more gratification out of it than I should. But in the end, boobies are being helped and that’s what’s important, right?

tit knitter

My cousin? She knits tits. And she knits them well, I might add.

So far, with her generosity of knitting until her fingers fall off, and the generosity of Jodi and Suzy, the Boobie Scarf Campaign has raised $110. $110 of money that’s going towards finding a cure for breast cancer, I might add.

She just finished up another scarf and bidding has started. Why aren’t you bidding yet?

what i really did on saturday

March 27th, 2006 | 1 Comment | Posted in Friends, Riley, The 3 Day '06

Saturday morning, I got up and went to Amelia’s swimming lessons, which is a normal weekend activity for me. She turned four in January and it’s fun to watch her. This week, they were supposed to jump into the four feet deep side of the pool without holding on to the teacher’s hand. Amelia’s a dealmaker, and managed to talk the teacher in to letting her hang on to her pinkie finger when she jumped in. Adorable, indeed. Then, because I hadn’t seen her in about a week, I got a huge wet hug after the lesson was over.

I taught her to say “I love you” a few months ago in sign language. Tell me your heart wouldn’t melt if you saw a little blonde haired, blue eyed cutie telling you that from all the way across the YMCA swimming pool.

I had to quickly stop over at the ghetto Wal-Mart, which is actually right across the street from an apartment I wasthisclose to renting, to pick up a toilet brush, some business sized envelopes, and hand soap.

Jenni and I had plans to go to The 3 Day Kick Off Expo, so we headed into Minneapolis for that. Like a chump, I forgot my badge and I was so damn angry about that. I got a cool pin that said “I’m walking 60 in ’06″, though, and that just about made up for it. We walked past the tents (where Jenni asked me to sleep with her), the New Balance people (who I love so much because their shoes make my feet happy), and a thing I don’t think they had last year – they let you write a note to yourself about why you’re doing the walk, then they seal it into an envelope, and you get it back during The 3 Day. Like I need another reason to cry during it.

We got some awesome new ideas for fundraising, and our team goal of $25,000 is looking easier and easier every day. I’m about $825 from my goal, as soon as a few donations go through. I don’t know what it is about The 3 Day, but it has this insane ability to get me so very excited about begging for money and walking until my feet fall off.

Since we were in total 3 Day mode, we decided to go check out the bowling alley in St. Paul that we’re using on April 22nd (save the date!). We took some pictures, made some preliminary setup plans, and managed to get even more excited.

Riley had an appointment at 5pm to get groomed, which he desperately needed. An hour and a half and $42 later, I picked him up to find him wearing an oranage bandana. He prefers red, but whatever. The good news is that he was able to bond with his new gay stylist named Russell. I’m glad that he was able to find a stylist he connects with so well. In any case, I’ll be using Russell in the future, because he did such an awesome job. Is it wrong that my dog has a stylist in Minnesota, and I still keep mine in Missouri?

$$ for boobs

This year’s 3 Day is so exciting for me. Being part of a bigger and more local team is probably one of the highlights of it this year.

My cousin has been knitting scarves and has raised $110 for me so far, and she’s planning on knitting even more.
Our team has raised over $11,000, with just under 5 months to go before the walk. As co-captains, Jenni and I decided to up our team goal from $20,000 to $25,000. It’s for boobs! We can find another $5000 in donations somewhere, right?

We’ve baked thousands of cookies and whipped together over a thousand truffles. We’ve hawked pink breast cancer awareness wristbands for twice the cost. It’s quite obvious. People love boobs.

Yesterday, I mailed out 40 letters to area businesses asking for raffle prize donations for our April 22nd Bowling Party. We’ve already received over $400 worth of raffle prizes – concert tickets, gift certificates, gift baskets.

I realized yesterday that by the time the walk rolls around (August 18-20), I’ll have been fundraising for 10 months. And I LOVE IT.

the amazing boobie scarf

March 22nd, 2006 | 1 Comment | Posted in Family, The 3 Day '06

My cousin is doing an awesome, awesome thing. Last month, she knitted this scarf and held an auction for on it on her blog. It brought in $50 that all went straight to my fundraising efforts for The 3 Day. And, thank you, Jodi, for winning that auction!

She just finished knitting Boobie Scarf #2. I don’t know a lot about knitting. I used one of my knitting needles to turn hot dogs on a grill last summer. And I don’t know a lot about yarn. But I do know that my cousin worked really hard on these, and they look absolutely amazing. How could you not want to bid on a scarf that has 3-D BOOBS on it, complete with nipples! Check out the pictures of it here and jump on in with the bidding. It all goes directly to The 3 Day.

wrapping up the evening

March 19th, 2006 | Comments Off | Posted in Friends, Me, Misc., Riley, The 3 Day '06, Work

I go back to work tomorrow after not being in the office for over a week. I can’t say I’m looking forward to it for the simple reason that I always feel behind as it is, but being somewhat MIA for the past 5 business days is going to make me feel like I should take the short bus into work.

Jenny and Stephanie came over for dinner tonight. I ordered pizza. I’m classy like that. I think we must have been slobs, though, because my dog has been eating for the past 10 minutes all around the table. Good for him, I say. Lamb and rice has to get old after a while.
I’ve turned into one of those pet owners. I take my dog everywhere with me. Out to lunch, grocery shopping, a quick run to get anything, and he’s in the car with me. I’m going to take advantage of it while I can, because when summer rolls around, I won’t be able to do it as much. BECAUSE HE’D DIE. I’m a consciounsus vigilant pet owner.

I have to make a salad for a fundraising lunch we’re having at work tomorrow. I’m making Caesar salad. From a bag. Don’t tell. The Cuz gave me a good recipe that I might have to try out at a later date, but when people are paying $10/plate, I feel like I should probably give them something safe. Again with the vigilance. I’m sensing a pattern.

And, finally, for those keeping tabs on my fundraising mission for The 3 Day, I’m up to $1260. Fantastic. That’s over halfway and the walk isn’t even until August. The amazing/scary thing? Our 9 person team has a team goal of $25,000. We were feeling ambitious and upped our original goal by $5000. I think that makes us overachievers. You can help Team Boobylicious overachieve, too.

The honest-to-goodness-last-thing: If you’re local and/or enjoy driving, please keep April 22nd clear on your calendar. It’s a bowling/bingo/boobie-related fundraiser we’re having from 4pm – 11pm. More details to come, but seriously – SAVE THE DATE.
