ai: idol gives back part 1

April 24th, 2007 | 2 Comments | Posted in American Idol, Reality Shows, TV

You know what’s really hard? Trying to take Ryan Seacrest seriously. If the world ever comes to an end and we know about it well in advance, I would highly suggest having Ryan tell the world, because he can’t possibly be serious. The world as you know it will be coming to an end on… after the break.

My Tivo tells me the six finalists perform songs about compassion and music tonight. While I’m sure he’s a great kid, I’m glad Sanjaya isn’t coming back this week to butcher yet another style of song.

ai: it’s country time

April 17th, 2007 | 2 Comments | Posted in American Idol, Reality Shows, TV

Two weeks ago, I was on a cruise ship not giving one damn about who was singing what song on American Idol. The week after that, I was out with the homies eating cream cheese paddies and didn’t end up watching the show until the actual elimination show was airing. And now here I am, two weeks after Peter Noone and Lulu made everyone sing British Pop songs and America was finished with Chris Sligh.

According to Ryan Seacrest, Martina McBride was the “only choice” for a country performer this week. By only does he mean the only one that would say yes? Because I can think of about 2029 others they could have chosen, too. As long as they left Kellie Pickler off the show, I wouldn’t have complained much more than I normally do.

ai: 11 singers go british

March 20th, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in American Idol, Reality Shows, TV

What are you guys going to do next week when I’m aboard a large ship in the Caribbean and you don’t get to read my opinions about these guys? Or better yet, what am I going to do without my weekly Tivo’ed shows for a week? Oh, I know. I’ll lay in a chair poolside while watching the ocean pass by. Maybe I don’t have that much to complain about!

It’s British invasion night, which means maybe Simon will understand the songs. I don’t know if I should be embarrassed or not that I don’t recognize Peter Noone and Lulu.

dancing with the stars premier

March 19th, 2007 | 2 Comments | Posted in Reality Shows, TV

I watched a show tonight I never thought I’d have any interest in at all. Dancing with the Stars: Season 4. I don’t necessarily know if I’ll continue watching it, but I suppose time will tell. I already watch The Riches (awesome!) and I Love New York (I totally wanted White Boy to win), but since the latter of those two is thankfully almost over, I may have room in my regular TV schedule to fit it. As long as they don’t kick Billy Ray Cyrus off next week.

I half-assed watched the episode tonight, but when I found out they weren’t kicking anybody off until next week, I kind of lost interest. Plus, I was doing it at the same time I was packing for the cruise, and I can tell you straight away (I love it when Supernanny says that) that cruise-packing is more important than washed-up celebrity dancing any day of the week.

ai: the top 12

March 13th, 2007 | Comments Off | Posted in American Idol, Reality Shows, TV

I glad we’re down to just two shows a week. Three shows were cutting into my regular TV calendar and I wasn’t even watching the result show. And let me tell you, I miss dramatic pauses before commercial break. I’m also glad we’re over to the “tricked out” stage, as Ryan explained, and I love when he plays the air drums with his microphone. Ryan Seacrest? Not one of my favorites. Have I made that obvious?Last week, Jared Cotter, Antonella Barba, Sabrina Sloan, and Sundance Head all were denied a trip to the final 12. While I’m glad I don’t have to listen to Antonella or Sundance anymore, I don’t know that Jared and Sabrina were the right other choices… but I obviously don’t speak for the rest of America.

Tonight is Diana Ross night, and I’m excited for that. I hope Sanjaya sings “I’m Coming Out” and Blake sings “Touch Me in the Morning”. No reason.

ai: top 7 girls and one skanky skank

March 7th, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in American Idol, Reality Shows, TV

It’s girls’ night, Paula Abdul is missing, and Ryan has on a turtleneck. Less than one minute into the show and I’m rolling my eyes already. I bitch an awful lot about a show that I can’t miss multiple times a week. We said bye-bye to Alaina Alexander and Leslie Hunt last week, and for those playing at home, I actually guessed one of those right.

Two minutes into the show and Randy Jackson is making comments about Paula being under the table. This could be a long hour.

ai: top 8 boys and some secrets

March 6th, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in American Idol, Reality Shows, TV

The Top 8 Boys are in the house tonight, and it’s down to only an hour of forced Coke commercials and not-so-witty comebacks by Ryan. We got rid of A.J. Tabaldo and Nick Pedro last week, both of which I’d guessed incorrectly, but I’m not very good at this guessing part of it anyway.

This week, we get to learn about secrets each of the contestants. I hope there are some good ones and not some douchey “I like asparagus” or “I want to be an astronaut” videos. I want some raw secrets, suckers. You better give ‘em to me.

ai: the 10 girls a day late

March 1st, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in American Idol, Reality Shows, TV

Two weeks in a row where I have managed to fall asleep during the girls’ night, even though they’re probably better as a group. Hmm. I’m not sure what this means, but before I analyze it too much, let’s just go over a few things.I don’t remember any of their performances from last week, except Lakisha, who sang the song from Dreamgirls, and I just remember Jordin Sparks, because she’s adorable. I remember Antonella whatever her last name is sucking, and then reading about semi-dirty pictures of her showing up all over the internet. I just remember Melinda Doolittle’s name, and for the rest of them? Sorry, girls. I got nothin’.

It’s only one more week of this three night week bullshit, right? I’m tired of hearing Paula tell all the girls they’re beautiful. They may be, but seriously who cares.

ai: 10 boys are back

February 27th, 2007 | 3 Comments | Posted in American Idol, Reality Shows, TV

Unfortunately, there will be no shoeless Paul Kim and no cute little Rudy Cardenas this week as the top 10 guys are on again tonight. They’re supposed to dedicate this week’s performances to people that inspire them or mean a lot to them or something to that effect. Naturally, it’s a super corny theme, because they can’t really get to in depth with the whole theme week just yet, I guess!

matt buckstein, the lost idol

February 25th, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in American Idol, Internets, Reality Shows

I’m blaming this post on the fact that the snow finally put the kibosh on my desired activities. It started by snowing in many a-vehicles to prevent a trip for brunching at Town Talk this morning, but it has made it a good day for the napping.

Do you guys remember Matt Buckstein? He’s the cowboy that tried out on American Idol last year, and ended up getting the boot right after the group performance, because he has that little cowboy kid that only sang to his turkeys – Garet Johnson. Or something like that. He tried out again this year and made it to the Top 40. He didn’t make the Top 24, because Paula told him he didn’t have that extra something that he needed to go on.

Instead of proclaiming he was screwed or complaining about the show in general, he went back home to Denver and decided to keep performing every week and let the folks on the internet vote on whether or not he should go on to the next round. It’s kinda dorky and nerdy, but it’s also kinda cute! Here’s the link to his first week’s performance, which I think he posted online last Tuesday, the same day the Final 12 Boys gave their first performance.

As it turns out, he’s been served with a cease and desist order from American Idol’s producers/legal team, telling him he can no longer use the term “Idol” now that he’s no longer on the show. You can hear him talk about it here.

So, while he may not be able to call himself “The Lost Idol”, I can, and that’s really the main reason for this post. The guy’s just having a good time, using the exposure he did get to his advantage, and the biggest show in America right now has to go and wreak havoc on his favorite hobby. Apparently they now have a copyright on the word idol. If that’s the case, I should be receiving my cease and desist order anytime now.
