Everyone enjoys a good about section, don’t they? I want this to be more creative, but for now, it’s just accurate. I’m 31. My birthday is March 18th, and I was born in 1978 – the year of the horse, as I found out while dining at a Vietnamese restaurant a year or two ago. I’m quite cultural obviously. I’ve also found out that I do have the majority of the typical Pisces traits. From 03.18.78 until 03.08.02, I lived in a town with around 20,000 people in the middle of Missouri. On that cold day in March, I drove to what I consider my home (for now) – Minnesota.
I bounced around the suburbs and the cities with a bevy of roommates and a couple of places on my own, but have now share a duplex in Northeast Minneapolis with my better half, The Boy Child, and various animals.
Since I’ve turned 16, I’ve worked at a K-Mart, a Taco Bell, a pizza restaurant, a photography processing plant, an internet service provider, a telecommunications company that went bankrupt 3 months after I started, a major electronics retailer, and a software company. I don’t count the six hours I worked at Budget Rent-A-Car in the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport.
I’m currently a recruiter (or staffing consultant, depending on the day) and I, without sounding like a pompous ass, am really good at it. I’ve been there since April of 2008 and am already achieving a quota I’m not expected to make for another few months. Winner, winner, chicken dinner!
Meet Riley. Riley’s a 4 year old (born 06.10.2005) boxer puppy dog. He’s the best roommate I’ve ever had and absolutely my best friend in the whole world. He leaves his hair in some undesirable places, but at least I know he’s clean. I’ve had him since he was 12 weeks old, and learned so much about him. We’ve dealt with puppy classes, separation anxiety, food allergies, and we’re currently trying to beat this whole paw-licking habit that he has. Riley’s the best, and I’m glad my other friends don’t get tired of me always talking about him.
I love sports – baseball (Minnesota Twins and the Boston Red Sox), NBA basketball (Minnesota Timberwolves), WNBA Basketball (Minnesota Lynx and whichever team Kristen Mann is playing on at any given time), and my friends that have lived in Minnesota longer than I have are slowly converting me into a hockey fan… because I needed more things to be obsessed about in the sports world.
Even though I don’t watch college basketball during the season, I still fill out bracket come March Madness time. I always pick Duke to win it all. C’mon! Christian Laettner’s turn around jumper against Connecticut over 10 years ago gives me the confidence that they can win it again every year! Over the past two or three years, I’ve picked my teams based on either name recognition or how good they were back when I was playing JV basketball for the Smith-Cotton High School Lady Tigers.
I also love photography, or maybe I just love my digital camera. I love going outside. I love road trips. I love traveling. I love the internet, TV, reality shows, my couch, my new apartment, my watch, my family, tennis shoes, thunderstorms, good parking spots, pizza, polo shirts, watching movies, beanie caps, and Clay Aiken David Beckham (as soon as Clay Aiken comes out of the closet, he’ll be back at the top of my list) and the All New Gay Clay Aiken.
Since May of 2008, I’ve been totally gaga, schmoopy in love with someone I lovingly refer to as The Generalâ„¢ in these here parts. The General comes complete with another boxer named Kentucky that has just officially moved in (he didn’t come in the UHaul) as of Labor Day 2008. Both boxers just got their post-camping bath, so the apartment smells like vanilla pet shampoo and wet dog. And it couldn’t be better. The General’s offspring, often known at The Boy, hangs out with us half the time and chillin’ with a 12 year old isn’t all that bad sometimes.
And I love boobs. In 2005, I joined some friends in the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer 3 Day walk in Boston. It was easily the best experience of my life. Walking 60 miles over the course of 3 days is the least I can do to help increase breast cancer awareness and fight to find a cure for such a tragic disease. In 2006, my team raised over $20,000. And last year, our team grew to 19 members and raised over $30,000 – it may have involved shaving my head, but it was totally worth it. This year, my BFF and I decided to try a different route and be a part of the crew. We landed our DREAM 3 DAY JOB of driving the sweep van, and we’re super excited for the event at the end of September. You can learn more about the cause and our team at teamboobylicious.com.
