Little secret about the meals in our house. We could eat pizza every day for every meal. All there of us. And probably Riley, too. Then again, he's not picky about what he eats. The thing about that is we're all trying to eat healthier, so pizza for every meal just isn't all that great of an option. I got a coupon to try a free pizza from FRESCHETTA® Simply…Inspired™. The only thing better than regular pizza is free pizza.
We had to avoid onions in our selection since The General is allergic, which trimmed down our options. Luckily, there's a Hawaiian Style, which includes Canadian bacon, bacon, pineapple, the standard mozzarella cheese, and, instead of regular pizza sauce, they used BBQ sauce. There are 7 other kinds to choose from if this isn't your style.
Our mutual decision after devouring it? Pretty darn good. The ingredients didn't taste like your normal frozen pizza, which means you could actually taste what you were eating instead of eating a bite size morsel of freezerburn. It's 390 calories per serving, which isn't exactly stellar, but when you're craving pizza and still keeping an eye out for calories, it's a really good option. The crust was probably my favorite. It was incredibly thin which translated into incredibly crispy and you can't go wrong with extra crispy crust in my book.
There were only two things we could find that weren't top notch for us. The package seemed to be quite a bit excessive for a frozen pizza. It came it's own container with plastic over it. They probably could have cut it in half and been just fine. The pizza itself seemed a bit small. That could be because we'd spent the entire afternoon out in the yard digging things up and had some crazy appetites.
The packaging is actually part of Freschetta's new marketing campaign. They call it the FRESCH-TASTE SEAL™ package, which maintains better flavor (we noticed!) and is better for the environment (we didn't notice!). Maybe we just don't buy enough frozen pizza to compare packaging!
Now here's where you win. Freschetta sent an additional coupon AND a bamboo cutting board for me to give away via my blog. So who wants it? Here's what you have to do. I worked in a pizza joint for a couple of years just out of high school. I have some awesome stories and met some awesome people. So share with me an awesome memory you have about one of your first jobs. I'll enter everyone into a drawing and pick a random winner! And by the way, check out @FreschettaSI on Twitter or "Like" them on Facebook while you're sitting there not doing anything!
