Let Go. What (or whom) did you let go of this year? Why?
I let go of a lot of stuff this past year. I’ve always been a packrat. It’s not quite hoarding, I don’t think, because I can walk through my house and I don’t have bugs the size of my big toe crawling across my collection of chewed gum.
This past year, I managed to get rid of a lot of things I didn’t need anymore. I’m sentimental when it comes to gifts and have the tendency to hang on to things for longer than I should because of who gave them to me. While I still kept some things that were given to me by my grandparents, I really didn’t need things like my New Kids on the Block/Michael Jordan poster collection from junior high/high school or purple wedding shoes from my uncle’s wedding in 1992. Great memories that I can keep in my head and not clutter my house with it.
I tried throwing away my white suspenders from 7th grade, but a certain 8th grader in my house has procured them and wore them to school one day with a Doomtree t-shirt I got for him. I was never so proud about sending him off to school as I was that morning.
