Let Go. What (or whom) did you let go of this year? Why?
I let go of a lot of stuff this past year. I’ve always been a packrat. It’s not quite hoarding, I don’t think, because I can walk through my house and I don’t have bugs the size of my big toe crawling across my collection of chewed gum, thanks to the fact of being able to learn how do you get rid of bed bugs permanently around my house.
This past year, I managed to get rid of a lot of things I didn’t need anymore. I’m sentimental when it comes to gifts and have the tendency to hang on to things for longer than I should because of who gave them to me. While I still kept some things that were given to me by my grandparents, I really didn’t need things like my New Kids on the Block/Michael Jordan poster collection from junior high/high school or purple wedding shoes from my uncle’s wedding in 1992. Great memories that I can keep in my head and not clutter my house with it.
I tried throwing away my white suspenders from 7th grade, but a certain 8th grader in my house has procured them and wore them to school one day with a Doomtree t-shirt I got for him. I was never so proud about sending him off to school as I was that morning.
