Okay, opponents of gay marriage — in your opinion, is it okay to marry your first cousin? I’m just curious, because that seems like it would probably ruin the sanctity of marriage a little bit more then a couple of queers getting hitched.

What arguments to anti-same-sex-marriage people have against gays marrying that wouldn’t be just as strong of an argument against first cousins getting married?

This melts my mind. It really does.

  • Note to Self and to The General: We should check this out!
  • C'mon. Really? If someone smashes into me on the highway because they're playing Bejeweled, I'm gonna be mad.

my favorite t-shirt site ever

(Note: Nobody is paying me to write this post. Sure, sometimes people do, but this is honestly my favorite site to order t-shirts from right now and I wanted to share.)

It is no secret to anyone I know that I love me some t-shirts. The General has been on me since we met to pare down my t-shirt collection and I absolutely should and absolutely have. It’s just hard, because you never know when there might be an appropriate time to wear that t-shirt I have with a piñata that says “I’d Hit That” or a t-shirt that has a picture of a dude driving the steering wheel of a boat that says “I’m Your Captain”. See how necessary my t-shirt collection is?

I’ve been trying not to add too much to it. Five days a week, I’m regulated to business casual/professional and oddly enough, business casual doesn’t really include witty t-shirts. I’m not sure why. I know if I had my own business, I’d totally be all, “Hey, guys! Tomorrow is Wear a T-Shirt from your Favorite Late 1980s/Early 1990s Morning TV Show Day!” (See how I worked that out, so I could wear my Bayside Tigers t-shirt?)

In any case, CrazyDogTShirts started following me on Twitter one day. Normally I hate marketing attempts like that, but when there are t-shirts involved, I’m totally making some sort of an exception. Every damn time. Even better? They have a contest every Monday where they pick a random follower and you win a t-shirt. That’s a contest I can stand behind! Soon enough, I won!

I had the extremely daunting choice of trying to pick one damn t-shirt from their collections of probably hundreds. There were at least 29 I wanted, but there’s that whole thing with The General wanting me to throw out five old t-shirts for every new t-shirt I get. And while I totally get the logic behind that, I’m just not ready to part with my two different orange Dukes of Hazzard t-shirts. I might need those for something one day.

I finally decided on the aforementioned Bayside Tigers shirt. (That picture is totally me, by the way.) Who wouldn’t want one of those? And not to get all review like and everything, but my t-shirt is one of the best ones I’ve ever gotten online. Aside from the fact that I could join Zack Morris, Kelly Kapowski, Lisa Turtle and the gang at the Max and totally fit in, the shirt is incredibly good quality and it’s not all itchy and scratchy like a lot of the shirts I’ve ordered online.

They’re always running awesome specials, too. Right now, you get shipping for 99 cents if you order 3 shirts. There’s always one shirt they’re selling for $6.99 every day and they have a whole selection of $9 shirts, too.

This is my ringing (and non-sponsored, I swear!) endorsement!

  • I'm thrilled to learn that "8" is sexting code for Blow Job. I'm even more thrilled to learn this from the Sedalia Democrat. I'M TEXTING YOU ALL WITH 8 ALL THE TIME.
  • I got hooked on this site thanks to Jenni. 95% of them are just stupid. The rest are brilliant. Poetic even. This is one of them.

the things about facebook, part 2

Similar to my earlier research (posted in: the things about facebook), I’ve decided that I’m growing more and more disappointed and irritated with the people of my youth.

First off, let me just say that I’m okay with typos. Everyone does it. I do it. And when I do it, I rarely go back and fix it. I’m probably lazy that way. But there are really no excuses at all for the following:

  • A guy I used to work with back in Sedalia ended up going to school after I moved away. He went to a “comunity collage“. Did they not enforce spelling at all at that comunity collage, Jimmy boy?
  • This from a guy I’ve known since 5th grade: “santa dont got nothin on us men in brown“. Dude. I understand you’re a UPS driver, but c’mon. We had English together in high school. I know you got the same education as I did up until 12th grade. The college degree you have listed on your Facebook profile sort of infuriates me! (Same dude also said he was “amune” to something.)
  • Best comment ever that I found on a friend’s photo: “I love it too funny too bad you werent drunk with us!!! shouldve pumped and dumped lmao“. What does that even MEAN? I mean, I know what it means, but really? Really?

Here’s the sad thing about all of it. It’s not like I tried to find stupid shit about these people. They’ve either requested to connect with me on the popular social networking site known as Book Face or I just happened to look into their profile a bit more because, for the love of Mel Gibson, I just wanted to find out what they’d been up to.

I’m judging. I know. I just can’t help it. You’re all welcome to judge me, too. I’m totally down with that.

the day after christmas television programming

Also called: “What I Get to Watch When Nobody Else is Home”

  • Two hours of Animal Cops: Philadelphia
  • The Thomas Crown Affair
  • Man Hunt (an hour long show about escape prisoners)
  • Incredible Dog Challenge (which takes place in San Diego. Riley can’t surf, so he’ll never win this challenge…)
  • some movie about Christmas starring Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Jessica Biel (in 1998)

This is all since 11:00 a.m. I have some freelance to do that should take a couple of hours and then it might be time to break out the Wii. There’s only so much laying on the couch one person can do.

P.S. What the hell is Jonathan Taylor Thomas up to these days? IMDB and Wikipedia are not answering my questions about him.

happy late christmas!

The Kid went with his dad to celebrate Christmas at his grandparents’ house. This morning The General got a phone cal at 7:30 a.m. and is now at the hospital awaiting the delivery of Doula Client #1′s little baby girl. I’ve been left to my own devices and left to entertain our dogs and a Mexican street puppy. So far, today’s involved a few hours of Animal Cops while laying on the couch covered in dogs.

I figured I deserved a break after a stunt this morning involving getting the car out of the driveway after two days of really wet snow. That situation ended with the car rolling backwards towards the neighbor’s fence and me jumping in the driver’s side door to try and stop it. Somehow, I’m not sore. Knowing my back and my awesome arthritis, I have a feeling I might be feeling it later this afternono.

I had from the 23rd to the 29th off from work, thanks to some really understanding co-workers and a really awesome boss, which would have given me plenty of time to make the trek to Missouri for Christmas. With the snow, the interstate closings, and the questionable brakes on my car, however, it didn’t work out that way. Two Christmases in a row not celebrating with family has left me feeling pretty bummed to say the least. And in the meantime, I have an entire laundry basket full of Christmas presents in our bedroom that will have to sit here until I figure out when to head home next.

I’m planning on Jan. 1 and staying for a couple of days, but the availability of my parents has yet to be determined and that might, well, throw a kink into things.

i’ll never be frugal

Looking into ’10 and after being on a salary freeze for all of ’09, I’m gonna buckle down and focus on finances. I’ve needed to for quite some time, but I’ve always managed to sneak by with some type of disposable income. My disposable income of years gone by has been, well, disposed of in many ways — none, mind you, that I regret! It’s just required learning to live in a little different lifestyle, one which I’m still trying to get used to.

MSN has a list of radical ways to save money and it makes me happy to realize we’ve done every single one of those in one aspect or the other. I take that back. We haven’t gotten rid of the car, but when I have a four mile round trip commute a day, I feel pretty good about that. I bus regularly, but considering it’s $4.50 round trip for the bus, I think it’s probably costing me more to use public transportation! Roommates aren’t an option, but The General’s stopped smoking, we’re regulars at the thrift store, and I’d definitely consider ourselves homebodies. Check, check, check and check!

I’ve been trying to look at other ways to lessen the blow of monthly bills. We’re on the lowest cell phone plan we can find. Right now, there are no car payments (that’s likely to change soon) and we watch the electricity as much as we can. Everyone says to shop around for different car insurance options, but I can’t really find a place that’s cheaper than my current one. The once accident left on my record should drop off in 2011, so I’m hoping for a drop then!

I’m still trying to convince The General that we should clip coupons. I say we, but I know I won’t do it by myself. We don’t want to pay for the local newspaper (mainly because it’s CRAP), so we’re left cruising online venues for ways to save money. I’ve been reading a ton of blogs from people (including people I actually know!) that save ridiculous amounts of money at the store every week. Sure, it requires a ton of prep work and countless hours scouring local coupon inserts, and while I know I don’t have the patience for that, I’m going to see what else we can come with. Besides a Costco membership, because we already have one of those.
