Know what I’m thankful for?

The Thin Mints and can of Coke I’m having for breakfast.

Oatmeal was probably a better option, but you know what? We’re too busy for me to go all the way to the microwave for a minute and 30 seconds, which is pretty super a really good thing. Especially in this economy. I love that phrase so much that I want to use it every single day of my life. Forever.

I’m thankful for more things. I plan on listing them. Sooner or later.

dark chocolate benefits for pregnancy

November 21st, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Misc.

Living with a doula/budding midwife, I hear a lot of things about pregnancy and birthing that I never really ever expected to learn. Ever. I’ve heard more about what people do with placentas then I ever could have imagined and I’m still uncomfortable with some of the things people resort to doing with a leftover body part. Or whatever it is.

Dr. Elizabeth Triche of Yale University studied 2000+ pregnant ladies to find out how much chocolate they ate during which trimester and then tested a whole bunch of blood from the umbilical cords to figure some things out. Turns out, about 70% were less likely to wind up with high blood pressure while they were pregnant. Yay for chocolate!

This is yet another reason I shouldn’t ever give birth. I don’t like dark chocolate. Give me a Kit Kat any old day and it better not be the dark chocolate kind. If I was going to buy a pregnant mama some dark chocolates, I’d probably need a little help picking out what was actually good, so I’m glad there are sites that offer an awesome selection of dark chocolate for pregnancy needs. It also kind of eliminates the reason to have to fight through the crowds at the Mall of America for some fancy Godiva stuff, too.

I seriously feel like I’m a doula apprentice or something with all the information that I end up learning. It helps me overlook the fact that there’s a speculum sitting on my kitchen table. (Not kidding.)

streak for the cash for 11/19

November 19th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Misc.

I meant to get around to posting this earlier this morning, but I had to do that whole working thing.

Pretty sure I’m having my best month ever this month. I’ve done an above average job in picking the outcome of all the football props they’ve posted and am doing fairly well in basketball, which means the winter might be my strength when I’m streakin’ for the cash.  Now, guys, don’t get me wrong, I would totally be down for winning $2500 just for having the most wins in one month. And I would absolutely be down for winning a COOL MILLION should I happen to put together the longest streak of all time. But the main reason I love this so much? I just love winning and I love being right.

I get great pleasure in basketball games like last night’s Mavericks/Spurs matchup, where I end up picking the Dallas Mavericks and they end up pulling it out in overtime. And when I can make the right choice when it comes to picking which team will score first in the first half of a World Cup Qualifying match between Greece and Ukraine, I get so happy I might pee. Basically, I just love Streak for the Cash. And sometimes, yes, I love The Streakmaster, too.

Current Streak: W3 | Overall Picks: 210-184-12 (.533)

1. Dayton Flyers: Georgia Tech sucked balls last year. They have some awesome freshmen, but Dayton, while I couldn’t even tell you the last great person that played for them, has several returning seniors from a fairly successful team last year. They’re playing in San Juan, Puerto Rico, so a homecourt advantage means absolutely nothing.

2. Indiana – Made 3 Pointers: These are tricky. The Hoosiers have a pretty decent 3-point shooting percentage as a team. I’m actually also expecting them to win, so the other side of the coin being Mississippi’s winning margin doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, in my opinion.

3. Pittsburgh Penguins: I’m not sure how the time constrains will work with the previous basketball game, but this is who I’m hoping to have the chance to pick. Two words: Sidney Crosby. There are probably other words, like the fact that the Penguins offense has finally kicked it back into gear.

4. John Salmons My main reason for wanting to pick Artest to score more points has nothing to do with him, but more to do with the fact that Salmons is probably going to wind up either in foul trouble or tired from trying to guard Kobe Bryant. This is also one of those picks that I’m yanking straight out of my ass, too. Salmons has had a couple big games earlier this season and I think he’s going to keep on rolling. Artest, on the other hand, has kinda been playing like booty.

P.S. Don’t get The Streakmaster confused with Streakmaster. Straight from Streakmaster’s website: Streak Master, Inc. is your one stop shop for all your cleaning products, stain removers, and specialty cleaners. We manufacture hundreds of cleaning products for a multitude of industries. Here is a very dirty horse trailer.

Were you to encounter a ninja, they would kick your everlovin’ ass.

I love The General. A lot. And I love the reasoning that it takes to get The Kid to understand things. Especially how he’s not a ninja. Clearly dressing as Chuck Norris/Walker Texas, Ranger for Halloween has gone to his head.

twitter apparently does pay

November 17th, 2009 | 1 Comment | Posted in Internets

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Sponsored Tweets. All opinions are 100% mine.

I jumped on the Twitter bandwagon close to, I don’t know, three years ago? I use it daily, sometimes more than I should. There are times when I can’t really stand some of the things people feel the need to tweet, but for the most part, I pretty much love it. With the exception for the spammers that manage to sign up and send me direct messages asking me to click on various links.

And now, similar to the Pay Per Post site I’ve used in the past (and am using right now) to give me some writing prompts and make a few extra bucks, the same company has also started a website involving Sponsored Tweets. Here’s what the interface looks like:
Picture-26-468x306

Basically, anyone that wants can sign up for sponsored tweets and make a few quick bucks.

While I can definitely see the logic behind agreeing to get paid for the 140 characters you’re probably pecking out on your cell phone keypad, I think I’d generally be irritated by it. IZEA does a good job of trying to regulate what goes out, giving people the opportunity to approve or reject what they’ll be sending out and making full disclosure mandatory. I just don’t think it’s something I’d decide to do. I would reconsider if someone wanted to pay me five million dollars to tweet about something. And I suppose that could be somewhat negotiable.

darryl dawkins: the legend

His backboard-shattering dunks would earn him the moniker “Chocolate Thunder,” but he also garnered a reputation for his playful demeanor and trash talking. He spun tales of his fictional “Planet Lovetron” and anointed his dunks with colorful names like “Turbo Sexophonic Delight” and “Spine Chiller Supreme.

The article itself is sort of a boring read, but I really needed to have the words “Turbo Sexophonic Delight” on my blog somewhere.
