donating some blood
A couple of weeks ago, I read an article somewhere that said the blood banks were running low and anyone with O+ blood was encouraged to donate. After I read the article, I thought, “Hey! I have O+ AND I have an extra pint of blood I’m not using.” and then I went to Memorial Blood Centers’ website to make sure there wasn’t some weird thing saying I couldn’t donate for some bizarre reason.
In less than five minutes, I’d schedule an appointment for today at 10:00, and even schedule a reminder call to happen yesterday so I wouldn’t forget. This morning, I walked from work to their building at 7th and Marquette. I still can’t feel the tops of my ears after that little venture. I signed my name, took some quiz that asked about the time I’d spent in the UK and whether or not I’d had sex with a man that’d been sexually active with another man after 1977, and left a pint of my blood there. In a bag, of course.
It was incredibly easy, extremely unintrusive, and so simple I scheduled my next appointment for March 11th.
If you’ve never donated blood, you should. It doesn’t hurt and I bet most of you have some extra to spare.
