moving day has been scheduled

Sometime before Thanksgiving, more specifically on November 20th, The General and I looked at duplex in Northeast Minneapolis. At first site, I wasn’t all that impressed with it. Yeah, it was cute, but I started picking apart things that didn’t really matter. And in reality, looking back, those are some of the things that I like about it. Short story of all that? We both ended up liking it a ton.

Since we both don’t have the greatest credit in the world and I’ve been at my job less than a year, we were both kinda worried about how well we’d fare in a background/credit check. This was only the second place we’d been into look. The first one was in a larger apartment complex, which we all really liked, and the caretaker that showed us the apartment pretty much begged us to move in. Nice quiet couple? YES, PLEASE. So, we knew we had that as a backup plan.

While we were in St. Louis, we filled in our applications and sent them to the potential landlord. (Sidenote: The guy offered us a turkey when we went to look at the duplex; he said he was hoping to sweeten the deal. How cute is that?) He called into my work to make sure I actually worked there, and did whatever other types of verifying that he needed to do before finally telling us the place was ours. YAY!

After a lot of email tag, we finally, as of about four hours ago, have set up a time for us to sign the lease and I’m so freaking excited. As of Saturday at 2pm, we’ll be, well, duplex tenants. At least on paper.

I’m just glad that this move, much in thanks to The General, will be more organized than the move from Eagan to Minneapolis. This time I promise I won’t have trash bags full of clothes and piles full of trash strewn about the apartment. And keep your calendar clear for January 24th, because that’s when we’ll need some help. Anyone willing to donate the use of a truck of some nature would easily fall on our BFF list, because we’re bypassing a truck rental this time around. I hope we don’t screw ourselves over on that!

online lovin’

It’s probably no secret that I’ve met the majority of the people I’ve dated in one fashion or another online. Coming from a small town where all of the people you may want to date are people you went to high school with kind of puts a limit on things. Thanks goodness for Yahoo! personal ads back in 1998 and 1999, or I wouldn’t have been able to visit the dorms of Whiteman Air Force Base a good 2098 times, right?

I love that the internet has expanded its horizons on making sure anybody and everybody can find their perfect match in some fashion online. Whether it be Craigslist where the guy working a late shift at Radio Shack can post ads for an after work hookup or some professional business lady that works so many hours she needs to have one of those places that arrange dinner find her someone nice and handsome that doesn’t have a criminal record, the internet is there for everyone’s booty call! and/or chance at finding love if they’re not going to be on a horrible VH1 reality dating show.

They make it a little too easy now, with things like Dating Directory Online. Back in the day, you had to type things like “dating +not in prison” into Yahoo (because Google wasn’t around) and hopefully find something. This directory gives people options like “Married But Playing Dating Sites” or “Millionaire Dating Sites” along with the regular old fashioned sites like “Straight Dating Sites” and “Adult Dating Sites”… I hope not as opposed to Child Dating Sites…

hap-hap-happy 2009

For the past week, I’ve been trying to decide what types of resolutions I wanted to make. Not the typical “lose 10 pounds” or “save the Earth”, but things I could really do. And I kept drawing a blank. I think it’s because most of the things I would like to resolve to do are things that I’m going to do… so I guess it makes it more like a 2009 To Do List. A list which I still haven’t made.

I’m glad 2009 is here. I didn’t hate 2008 at all – I wound up with a job so awesome that I couldn’t even ask for anything better (aside from a built in basketball court on the 3rd floor of our building, but that’s still pending!) and I wound up with The General, which is another one of those things I couldn’t have imagined happening this time last year.

2008 could have been better in the ol’ checkbook, but in the grand scheme of things my new happiness with my work and The General, combined with the constant awesomeness of my friends and family made 2008 as awesome as expected.

2009 will bring on some new things that I’m excited about both professionally and personally, but at the risk of not wanting to jinx anything, I’m keeping them to myself for now. But for all of you, have a RIDICULOUSLY Happy 2009, and thanks for always reading over things here, even if it is usually a bunch of links or some paid post. I think about writing here a lot, but it’s just that whole execution part that seems to fail me every time.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
