oh, horatio caine

I’m in love with the person that made this video:

And yes, I did watch all seven minutes.

And I love Jim Carrey for this:

Yep, you guessed it. The General™ is off drinking wine at “choir practice” and I’m watching the nine episodes of CSI: Miami I have saved up on the Tivo. And possibly reading all of the character descriptions Wikipedia has to provide.

owners retreat and a breakfast room

October 21st, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Misc.

Left my cell phone at home today and came home with 60+ text messages, the majority of them were from Twitter, but STILL. That’s a lot of stuff to sort through!

Our early apartment search is probably a good idea. Our dog count is up to two mangy mutts and I know that, personally, my credit has only gotten marginally better. At least this time I’ll be employed, which I’m hoping helps our chances of getting some options to choose from. In the meantime, I’m hoping for a few cool million to just be delivered to me – preferably in cash – without any questions, and then I can look into, you know, building my own home… maybe something from Schumacher Homes.

There’s a model named after my brother that has 2400+ square feet, complete with OWNERS RETREAT and BREAKFAST ROOM. I don’t even know what owner’s retreat means, but you can be darn sure that’s what I’ll be calling my bedroom wherever it is we end up moving. And you can also start calling my couch my breakfast room, since that’s usually the place I eat my leftover cold pizza.

dreaming again

October 21st, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Me

Last night, I had this dream.

I was at a party with Jenni and Missy, and one of the two asked if I wanted to sniff a line of cocaine. I, of course, said no and started to lecture them about the dangers of snorting cocaine. I looked up and noticed Randy Jackson was coming our way. To avoid Randy Jackson, I ran out the back door and around to the front yard only to find Randy Jackson already lecturing Missy and Jenni about how they shouldn’t use drugs.

The night before, I had a dream about the new apartments we want to look at. It didn’t involve cocaine or an American Idol judge, so I didn’t think it was worth as many details.

on the move again

My lease runs out in January (or so) and we’re looking for a new place to move. The only thing we’re not budging on? Must be in Minneapolis and must have two bedrooms. We found one we are so in love with – it’s 1.2 miles from my work, it has gigantic windows and 9 foot ceilings, and the kicker? An onsite dog park. We drove by it last night after the aforementioned musical and we were pretty much in love the whole time. The plan is to put out a few phone calls (we’ve already emailed) to get some more information and see if we’ll fit into their guidelines. We’re keeping our fingers crossed.

Another option we have is moving within the same building we’re at now. They’re one two bedroom apartment in the bottom floor. In passing, we’ve noticed that there are no less than six people living in this apartment. I’m not sure when their lease is up, but if there’s any way it would coincide with when mine is up, I’d be one happy camper. And it’d make a whole heck of a lot easier.

Their estimates are kind of mind blowing – they estimate a 1 bedroom apartment would have approximately 4000 pounds worth of furniture. That’s two tons. And that means that’s how much my friends moved for me back in February/March of this year. I’m really truly considering professional movers this time. I’m okay with packing everything up, but the idea of someone else loading it into a truck for me (and more importantly unloading it) fills my heart with glee. We’ll have to look into interstate moving companies… well, I guess more along the lines of intrastate ones, but at least it’s good to know there are so many out there for all kinds of different rates!

bright lights, big city at the illusion theater

October 19th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Reviews

One thing I’ve always meant to do since moving to Minneapolis (or the Twin Cities in general) is to actively participate in the theater… as an audience member, of course. This past summer, The General and I went to a couple of Fringe Festival shows, which marked my first visit to any type of Twin Cities theater/theatre event… unless you count free tickets to “We Gotta Bingo!” a couple of years ago. One of my new Work BFFs is big into the theater scene, which led us to Fringe in the first place, and subsequently to “Bright Lights, Big City” last night at the Illusion Theater.

It was awesome. It really was. My Work BFF gave me goose bumps when he sang, and I think that’s because when he sings at work, he always sings ridiculous songs in ridiculous voices, but holy crap – all of the reviews that I’ve read say things like he gives his character “a soul that soars vocally and emotionally” (via the StarTrib) and “[the] shocker here is [my Work BFF], who turns in an absolute masterpiece as Jamie’s left-behind, lesser-known brother” (via howwastheshow.com). And as we were walking into the lobby, The General overheard someone talking about how awesome his performance was. Of course, had someone said something bad, I probably would have gotten into a rumble…

I really loved it, and if you’re local, you should probably go see it before it’s run is over. It’s only about an hour and a half long, but it goes by so quickly, it seems like you’re sitting there for even less time than that.

web hosting blog

October 19th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Links

In reading my favorite web hosting blog (yep, I admitted to that), I found out my current webhost has decided to join the ranks of companies everywhere and make the move to going green. They’ve recently started reducing the amount of paper that’s used, focusing more on recycling, and even just made a switch to move efficient servers. I like the thought of that even more considering I didn’t see one slight change in my hosting service since all of that took place. Nice work, Host Gator!

I never thought I’d really want to read about the differences between cPanel (which is the only interface I’m even remotely familiar with) and newer programs that having coming out, like Ensim. But the thing is, if I’m ever going to get my yet-to-be-used domain name of tubesocksandasmile.com (yes, I own that) up and running, I should probably keep myself up to speed on things like that.

I always have these delusions of grandeur when it comes to websites and domain names and the brilliant ideas that I have in my head when it comes to them, but I always fail miserably when it comes to the execution of these ideas. I might just have to bite the bullet sometime in the near future and cut off some of these domains, which would mean I could invest in a cheaper hosting service or even a cheaper hosting plan, since Host Gator is all environmentally sound and all… hey, I like cheaper AND the environment!

st. louis park’s most wanted

In my extremely hungover state yesterday, The General and I ventured into Target after I did a quick client visit in the morning. Dropping off three dozen cookies to a group of 20 employees you have working hours that you get to bill time and a half for? Hopefully a good PR move. And then it was on to Target.

We needed hairspray and toilet paper. $100 later, we walked out with hairspray, toilet paper, 20 pounds of dog food, two ottomans that were 50% off, a new hoodie for me, two pops, some chocolate, and a headband. It wasn’t until we got outside and started moving our lovely merchandise into the car that we realized we shoplifted from Target.

There was a new dog toy and some poop bags hiding underneath one of the ottomans. WE SHOPLIFTED FROM TARGET.

My grandma, rest in peace, once went back into Wal-Mart after forgetting to pay for a spool of thread. Sorry, Grandma, but if you’d ever met your granddog, you’d probably steal things from the store for him, too.

miramar beach? okay!

October 18th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Travel

The past two nights, Jenni and I have been talking about our cruise next year. They were talking about going in February (which would be awesome), but I’ll be sitting kinda low on vacation and we’ll probably be moving either the month before or sometime right around that time period. And regardless of how much money I end up having in the bank or under a mattress, moving always costs about an arm, a leg, and half of some various vital organ.

Back to vacations… My parents and my aunt and uncle have both went on vacations where they ended up renting out someone else’s house for the duration of their stay. And at first, I think that was kinda creepy, knowing that people would be going through all of their belongings while wearing CSI gloves and making fun of all of my earthly possessions. But it seemed to work out either way for the people I know, so now it’s totally a viable option for me. You’re not staying somewhere that’s crowded with other vacationers, which is always a good thing.

This winter, at some point, I might be forced to take a long weekend just to visit somewhere I can find sun, sand, and some type of gigantic body of water. Maybe even somewhere I’ve never heard of like Miramar Beach or Clipper Cove. It’s hard not to love any place with the word beach or cove in their title.

Considering it’s mid-October and I’m already trying to find an excuse to take a vacation somewhere warm when winter hits, I think this might be an extremely long upcoming winter.

most official poll ever

October 18th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Internets

It’s about 4:00PM and I’m not deciding it’s safe to eat something. There may have been some over-indulging a bit more in a lot of vodka and some completely ill-advised shots that are now proudly (or not so proudly) displayed on the curb outside our building. The General kept telling me that I hadn’t been fulfilling all of the stories my friends tell about me after drinking, but after last night, I’m pretty sure The General won’t be feeling left out after my display of puking, yelling, and slight domestic violence.

Anyway.

I just ordered pizza from Domino’s online, mainly because I’m obsessed with the pizza tracker (our food is in the oven right now, by the way, thanks to William putting it in there at 3:57PM). And after I ordered, I got to do a poll on the Presidential elections. I wanted you all to see today’s poll standings, when it comes to folks too lazy to make their own dinner:

Clearly if the election were to happen right now, Obama will be the clear winner. I’m tempted to order food from PizzaHut.com right now, just to see if they have the same results!

some things are better in person

October 18th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Misc.

You know, I get the whole online poker thing. I was a fan of it for a while and then I realized that having it that easily accessible was not healthy for my psyche (getting angry at a person that’s sitting halfway around the world for making a stupid bet) and my bank account (getting vengeful after a while and wanting to beat someone no matter what). Although it was definitely fun while it lasted and made me realize how much I enjoyed playing poker. Just more in person than online.

I don’t really get the online casino option. Because for me, part of going to a casino – whether it be Mystic Lake just south of the Cities, the one just south of Des Moines that I used to stop at on my trips back and forth to Missouri before I got Riley, or any of the amazing places in Vegas (like the Pretty Pretty Princess Castle, for instance). If I want some full on casino action, then I definitely need it to include the people-watching aspect of it.

I guess for someone that doesn’t want to be bothered by people begging for money for a cab ride home (seriously – I’ve seen it happen) or the clouds of cigarette smoke or that beautiful sound of nickels hitting the metal when someone cashes out or wins, then online is probably the best casino-type option for them. Not me, though. I need to witness some trainwrecks taking place while I try to retire off of nickel slot machine winnings.
