on the move again

My lease runs out in January (or so) and we’re looking for a new place to move. The only thing we’re not budging on? Must be in Minneapolis and must have two bedrooms. We found one we are so in love with – it’s 1.2 miles from my work, it has gigantic windows and 9 foot ceilings, and the kicker? An onsite dog park. We drove by it last night after the aforementioned musical and we were pretty much in love the whole time. The plan is to put out a few phone calls (we’ve already emailed) to get some more information and see if we’ll fit into their guidelines. We’re keeping our fingers crossed.

Another option we have is moving within the same building we’re at now. They’re one two bedroom apartment in the bottom floor. In passing, we’ve noticed that there are no less than six people living in this apartment. I’m not sure when their lease is up, but if there’s any way it would coincide with when mine is up, I’d be one happy camper. And it’d make a whole heck of a lot easier.

Their estimates are kind of mind blowing – they estimate a 1 bedroom apartment would have approximately 4000 pounds worth of furniture. That’s two tons. And that means that’s how much my friends moved for me back in February/March of this year. I’m really truly considering professional movers this time. I’m okay with packing everything up, but the idea of someone else loading it into a truck for me (and more importantly unloading it) fills my heart with glee. We’ll have to look into interstate moving companies… well, I guess more along the lines of intrastate ones, but at least it’s good to know there are so many out there for all kinds of different rates!

bright lights, big city at the illusion theater

One thing I’ve always meant to do since moving to Minneapolis (or the Twin Cities in general) is to actively participate in the theater… as an audience member, of course. This past summer, The General and I went to a couple of Fringe Festival shows, which marked my first visit to any type of Twin Cities theater/theatre event… unless you count free tickets to “We Gotta Bingo!” a couple of years ago. One of my new Work BFFs is big into the theater scene, which led us to Fringe in the first place, and subsequently to “Bright Lights, Big City” last night at the Illusion Theater.

It was awesome. It really was. My Work BFF gave me goose bumps when he sang, and I think that’s because when he sings at work, he always sings ridiculous songs in ridiculous voices, but holy crap – all of the reviews that I’ve read say things like he gives his character “a soul that soars vocally and emotionally” (via the StarTrib) and “[the] shocker here is [my Work BFF], who turns in an absolute masterpiece as Jamie’s left-behind, lesser-known brother” (via howwastheshow.com). And as we were walking into the lobby, The General overheard someone talking about how awesome his performance was. Of course, had someone said something bad, I probably would have gotten into a rumble…

I really loved it, and if you’re local, you should probably go see it before it’s run is over. It’s only about an hour and a half long, but it goes by so quickly, it seems like you’re sitting there for even less time than that.

web hosting blog

In reading my favorite web hosting blog (yep, I admitted to that), I found out my current webhost has decided to join the ranks of companies everywhere and make the move to going green. They’ve recently started reducing the amount of paper that’s used, focusing more on recycling, and even just made a switch to move efficient servers. I like the thought of that even more considering I didn’t see one slight change in my hosting service since all of that took place. Nice work, Host Gator!

I never thought I’d really want to read about the differences between cPanel (which is the only interface I’m even remotely familiar with) and newer programs that having coming out, like Ensim. But the thing is, if I’m ever going to get my yet-to-be-used domain name of tubesocksandasmile.com (yes, I own that) up and running, I should probably keep myself up to speed on things like that.

I always have these delusions of grandeur when it comes to websites and domain names and the brilliant ideas that I have in my head when it comes to them, but I always fail miserably when it comes to the execution of these ideas. I might just have to bite the bullet sometime in the near future and cut off some of these domains, which would mean I could invest in a cheaper hosting service or even a cheaper hosting plan, since Host Gator is all environmentally sound and all… hey, I like cheaper AND the environment!

st. louis park’s most wanted

In my extremely hungover state yesterday, The General and I ventured into Target after I did a quick client visit in the morning. Dropping off three dozen cookies to a group of 20 employees you have working hours that you get to bill time and a half for? Hopefully a good PR move. And then it was on to Target.

We needed hairspray and toilet paper. $100 later, we walked out with hairspray, toilet paper, 20 pounds of dog food, two ottomans that were 50% off, a new hoodie for me, two pops, some chocolate, and a headband. It wasn’t until we got outside and started moving our lovely merchandise into the car that we realized we shoplifted from Target.

There was a new dog toy and some poop bags hiding underneath one of the ottomans. WE SHOPLIFTED FROM TARGET.

My grandma, rest in peace, once went back into Wal-Mart after forgetting to pay for a spool of thread. Sorry, Grandma, but if you’d ever met your granddog, you’d probably steal things from the store for him, too.
