kids make halloween hard

October 17th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Misc.

You’ve probably realized I’m a little Halloween-heavy on posts this time of year. Blame it on the fact that stores have had it ingrained in my head since mid-August or maybe even the 5th of July. There’s a lot of discussion in my little humble abode about The Boy’s idea for Halloween, and while it’s pretty detailed and specific, it’s not really something we’re going to be able to find at any of the Halloween Costume Stores around the area. And even if we did, it’s not likely they’d have his costume idea in a small boy’s size.

We’ve entertained the thought (and half way executed that same thought) of looking for a small men’s wetsuit at a thrift store to build his costume onto. And then there’s something about a specialized discount fabric store that we have to go to in order to get the particular material we need to attach to this wet suit… that we haven’t managed to locate yet. In other words, we’re running a little short on time when it comes to creating The World’s Best Preteen Boy Costume.

If we keep up at this pace, we’re going to have to swallow our pride, throw a sheet over him (perhaps forget to cut out the eye holes) and send him on his trick or treating way. And then try a little harder in a few weeks to convince him to look into Christmas Costumes. What? All the cool kids are doing it!

the weekend that’s been already planned!

Usually The General and I don’t have any weekend plans and sit around for the most part trying to figure out what to do. Then it’s midway through Friday night (and sometimes even Saturday afternoon) and we’re just deciding what to do. Oh, not this weekend!

Friday: The first Hockey Sluts (red headed sluts during hockey season) will be consumed at Liquor Meshbesher’s during the Gopher hockey game. Two-for-ones will be drank and many drunken toasts will take place. It’ll be good to rekindle this tradition.

Saturday: It’s hoodie hunting for The Boy, which means a potential trip to the thrift store, during the day. And theatre (OH YES, that’s the fancy kind) time in the evening. A friend of mine is in the musical production of Bright Lights, Big City, and this weekend, they’re offering two tickets for the price of one! I called the Illusion Theater today and we’re all set for the 7:30 PM show. And I have no idea what to wear to something like this, so I’ll have to find out what’s acceptable at a joint like that.

Sunday: LAUNDRY. And sleeping. This is already a jampacked weekend.

Last night at bowling league (oh yeah, I just said that), we were talking about the location of Cruise #3. We’re in love with the cruise line we usually take, but are starting to realize that if we go anywhere else, it’s going to have to be with a different cruise line… at least until they decide to swap out their routes a little bit.

The thing I love about our current favorite cruise line is the broad, broad range of nationalities that we’re cruising along with. If I had to guess, I’m sure at least 75% of the people onboard with us were from somewhere not located in North America and I love that. A lot.

And, you know, on the boat, there’s a casino and the casino is always full of all kinds of people yanking away on the slot machine arms or trying to beat the dealer in some fancy poker game I’ve never even heard of. Thinking about that tonight had me wondering what it’d be like to come to one of our casinos around the Twin Cities if you only speak something like, oh, I don’t know – German. I realized there’d be no way it could even be remotely enjoyable, which is why the German’s are probably better off doing all of their casinos visitin’ online. If I were German and needed my keno fix, that’d totally be where I’d get it. In case you were curious.
