and now my dog is licking the wall

February 24th, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in Friends, Photos

Yay!According to every weather forecast I’ve heard for the past 48 hours, we’re about to have 298 days of straight snow and 40 feet of accumulation. Or something like that. The Great Snowstorm that was supposed to happen last night and is barely happening right now has been hailed as “the worst in a long time!”, so that can only mean one thing for my plans this weekend – carry on as usual!

Matt’s birthday is tomorrow, so we started properly celebrating last night with hockey and drinks at Liquor Lyle’s, followed by more drinks at Town Talk. If anyone could possibly say they had a bad time, they’re lying. A LOT. The pictures are proof. Bill and I headed south after bar close, and despite reports of our potential deaths happening on the way home, the roads were actually very well taken care of and neither of us met our demise. Thankfully.

Still not receiving the snowstorm of the century, we carried on with the plans we’d made for today – A TRIP TO THE ZOO. What Minnesotan wouldn’t do that in the middle of February? Stephanie and I followed a snowplow along the interstate to meet up with Matt and Jenni at Como Zoo. We had some photography class homework to do, and figured we could get it done and see our favorite animals all at the same time. I don’t know how much of our homework we finished (here are the few I took), but I’m now really in love with polar bears and, as always, the orangutans.

Now I’m home. For now. Matt’s birthday still has some celebrating left to do tonight, and I’m hoping the snow doesn’t get too much heavier. I hate being defeated by a little precipitation!

If it weren’t for these fancy pants things called RSS reader, I’d totally have a newsletter of some fashion set up for this blog. Maybe something that would be sent out every week to let people know the exciting posts and/or pictures of my dogs they may have missed, because who could really carry on with their life without it, right?

Or maybe something just like a blog email would suffice. Maybe just a daily, or weekly, or even monthly update to let people know about the important thing they’re missing if they don’t get a chance to visit my blog on a regular basis.

Maybe this is the way to go! I know if I don’t have several times a day to monitor my favorite RSS reader, I may go several days without stopping by my favorite Hollywood gossip site, or my favorite place to get the latest news on trades within my favorite baseball organization. If I had them emailed to me, though, on a regular basis, I know that’s something that would definitely get my attention, and then I’d never have to worry about keeping caught up on the billions of other feeds I have just begging to be read.

The cool thing is that “Zookoda provides blog owners with the tools to manage their mailing lists, design their emails, and broadcast blog summaries”. I don’t know of an easier to get the word out about your blog in a more convenient way than that!

dog on the run

Riley running.

I took Riley out for lunch on Tuesday (my work from home day) and let him run and run and run and run and run in the park across the street from me. During the day, it’s empty, so he has the best day ever making giant circles all the way around the whole place. He was one tired puppy when it was all said and done.

Thanks to my photography class, I’ve actually been forced to learn how to use some of the settings in my camera, which really helped in catching him mid gallop here and getting the colors to match almost exactly what someone might see in person to how the picture ended up.  Now that we’re into the composition portion of the class, I’m enjoying the homework portions of it a lot more.

There’s not much I miss about living in an apartment as opposed to a house of my very own. Sure, it’d be nice to have a big fenced in yard for Riley (and probably a second dog) to run around in from time to time, and I wouldn’t really turn down even more rooms and square feet (as opposed to my current ~1100) to decorate with furniture I absolutely do not need. There’s one thing, though, that any house I ever own will absolutely have to have – basketball goals.

Back in the day, I used to play in the driveway for hours – shooting free throws, layups, shots from the road I lived on, or even my specialty shot – from the front porch. Our basketball goal was nothing fancy like they have now. It was a metal pole slammed into the ground, with a spray-painted wooden backboard and no way at all to adjust it. There would be no slam dunking at all from my driveway!

I see these kids playing basketball now, with their six year old brother hanging from the rim because it’s only a few feet off the ground. Cheating, I say! But you, I won’t lie. If I had a driveway right now, I’d definitely have a goal that was adjustable. I’d have that puppy on eight feet all the live long day and win me some NBA Slam Dunk Championship titles!

Man, just writing about it makes me want to take a special trip to the gym to play a little Around The World with myself.

fantasy baseball time!

I know it’s early, but now that pitchers and catchers have reported to spring training, I think it’s perfect timing to sign up for Yahoo! Fantasy Baseball, which happens to be one of my most favorite things ever.

Just go here to sign up, click the “Sign Up Now” or “Get Another Team” button, and follow the links to “Join a Custom League”. If needed, here’s the League ID and Password:

League ID#: 99844
Password: awesome

Right now it’s set for a manual draft in late March, but that can be changed as needed. I just wanted to secure a good time before they were all taken up.

Invite anyone you know!

not really well lit

February 22nd, 2007 | 2 Comments | Posted in Me

I really feel like I should have started a category just for apartment-related stuff. There seems to be quite a lot of information I like sharing that has to do with ye ol’ apartment #111. My biggest struggle in interior decorating? Lighting. In new(er) apartments, there are rarely any lights mounted on the ceiling, leaving the tenant to do all of his/her own light-decorations. For me, my lighting situation really sucks.

There aren’t options to hang your own ceiling lights, and if there were, I’m sure it wouldn’t exactly be the wisest of all ideas for Wendy to do things that involve electrical currents. Lamps make the most sense, but I looked for nine months before finding anything that I even remotely liked, and as it turns out, it happened to be the cheapest of all lamps in the town. I’m glad Bathroom Lights aren’t an issue.

Basically, that leaves me with one option – wall lighting. I really, really love wall lighting. If it were up to me, I’d have lines and lines of 60 watt light bulbs lining my living room and bedroom, but there aren’t enough wall outlets to make that little dream of mine come true.

Due to my lack of proper lighting, I probably have the most horribly lit apartment in all of my precious suburb. And also the most smelly, but that’ll be it’s own entry sometime soon if I don’t take care of this odor soon.

ai: and now the top 12 girls

February 22nd, 2007 | 2 Comments | Posted in American Idol, Reality Shows, TV

I fell asleep last night during the top 12 girls’ first performance, so I’m watching it now. It works out, I suppose, because the elimination show happens to fall on Thursday nights in the beginning which interfere with Survivor, and that is a no-no.

The girls are never my favorite. During the past four years (I didn’t watch the first season), I’ve never had a girl that I’ve really wanted to win, except Kimberley Locke. Oh, let’s be honest. I wanted her to get second place, so my gay boyfriend Clay Aiken could have won the whole thing.

From the auditions, I only remember the Antonella chick, and I just read on that there Internets today, that someone found dirty pictures of her online. Oooh, I have scandal!

now you’ve got me involved

February 22nd, 2007 | Comments Off | Posted in Internets

022107_SPN_Spears06.jpgFor the love of God and all that is holy, why did she have to go and get a dog involved?

I was okay when it was just a regular ol’ custody battle between a trashy wannabe white-rapper and a trashy used-to-be-awesome pop star. Child support, split custody, that all gets hashed out in court. It’s normal and happens all the time. Everyone always worries about the kids.
But now who’s going to look after the dog when Britney gets put back into rehab for a 650th time? And who’s going to help the puppy when she drops it like she dropped her first kid? That little bitty dog will snap in half. It’s not like little Sean Preston who has bones that were meant to pop back into place when getting dropped onto the floor.

Damn you, media! Damn you all to hell!

and there is nothing else going on in the world

I’ma give you the latest updates in Hollywood right now, and then you can just stop reading the Internets for the rest of your life.

Britney Spears? Crazy. And not the song.

Kevin Federline? Not such a bad idea anymore, now, is he?

Anna Nicole Smith? Dead

Howard K. Stern? Douchebag

Dancing With the Stars? lots of wash-ups

Marcia Cross? twin girls

Tom Brady/Bridget Moynahan? Someone poked a hole in someone else’s condom.

Usually I love all this entertainment gossip, but all of a sudden, it’s hit a dry-spell when it comes to quality and I’d like it to kind of stop or something.

ai: it starts with the top 12 boys

February 20th, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in American Idol, Reality Shows, TV

The two-hour long American Idol fest begins tonight. It’s that time of season where we see way too much of Ryan Seacrest or Secrest or Secrete or however you spell his last name and a Coke commercial every 10 minutes. It’s also that time of season where I spend two nights a week blogging about the show. Hey, I need something to keep me busy until baseball season starts up, right?

Tonight, the 12 boys start off, and really, I can only remember the auditions of a few. Without a doubt, though, I’m sure we’ll see a recap of every single damn contestant for the next however many weeks this show goes on. And I’ll bitch about it, but I’ll watch it. Every week. And then I’ll write about it. Because that’s the kind of awesome life I have.

Your comment and opinions are always welcome!
