there’s no reason for me not to move to vegas (pt 1)

January 22nd, 2007 | 3 Comments | Posted in Travel

(I started writing, but this got way too long, so here’s the summary of Friday in Vegas.)

It was my first trip to Vegas last weekend and I don’t think it would have been possible for it to be anymore awesome than it ended up being.

Friday afternoon, I shoved way too many clothes into my suitcase and waited for Jenni to pick me up. I was excited enough about it that I texted her to make sure she hadn’t forgotten me and was waiting outside when she pulled up to my building. No, she wasn’t late. I was just that wound up about our impending trip.

We packed up her Mini and headed over to Bill and Katie’s, where we were joined by Jumi and partook in in a pre-flight cocktail. Jenni’s dad brought the airport shuttle minivan to pick us up, and we were off to the airport after a stop at the transit station to pick up Matt.

We checked in at the lesser of two terminals and headed straight to Granddaddy’s, the first bar we saw inside the gate. After a shot of Maker’s Mark for everyone except Katie and a Bud Light chaser for me, we headed over to the gate for pre-boarding. No sooner than we posed for a couple of pictures was it time to load up our Sun Country 737 and head west.

as long as it’s gone by march

There are a few things that may have transpired this weekend that could be to blame as a source of my continuing cough and runny nose. Sharing drinks with my plague-infested friends, making out with more than one person, not wearing a coat Friday night – yeah, I think any one of those three things could be the cause.

I went to urgent care last week (hey, it’d been like two months!) because I haven’t been able to shake the same cough I’ve had since early December. The solution was prescription cough syrup with Codeine I was only to take at night. I didn’t fill it, because I’m coughing all day and Nyquil solves the problem overnight. I may be going back to see my friends there sometime, because really I need this mucous-producing, smoker’s cough to come to an end.

See what happens when I spend the day not leaving my apartment? I have to talk to someone and the Internet is my someone.

where i introduce you to lounge music

I’m sure you will all agree that I don’t have the best taste in music. I’ve never been ashamed of that or tried to deny it, because it’s just kind of impossible when it’s as obvious as it is.

I was out Friday night and heard the song Baby Got Back. Only it wasn’t the regular Baby Got Back; it was the lounge singer version… by Richard Cheese. Here it is on YouTube. Totally worth it.

Equally as funny? His remake of Gin and Juice.

If I wasn’t on The Great Budget Watch of 2007, I would be purchasing every CD he’s ever made, because who doesn’t love a) lounge music and b) leopard skin jackets? I, however, have a week long cruise to take in a little over two months and need to make sure my money bags are full for the Eastern Caribbean islands.

Since I let Google run every other aspect of my life, I thought it’d probably be a good idea to make the jump over to Google Reader. This marks the 3rd time I’ve attempted to make the change from Bloglines, so we’ll see if it takes this time around.

My co-worker/buddy Mike is at the Saints/Bears game today. He’s a huge Saints fan, so I’ve been trying to spot him, but of course to no avail. He dropped $1200 on two tickets and he seemed to be completely okay with that. I hope he’s having $1200 worth of fun.

I’m still working on a complete Vegas recap. I’ve had to ask a few questions to make sure my recount accurate. I don’t know if I should be proud of that or a bit embarassed.

I had a really awesome weekend and I really want to share details, but my parents read this and really the details I want to share are completely not parent-appropriate. You’ll just have to trust me when I say it was really awesome. I may be able to drum up some pictures from various people that might show a small bit of the awesome.

The only thing I hate about this layout is that if I make an unordered list, it doesn’t put dots out in front of the items for me. I’m sure there’s a way I could manually change that, but I’m too busy napping on the couch to be bothered by that.

waiting for the world to change

I’m sure by now, if you haven’t been living under a rock, you’ve heard about the scandal on the set of Grey’s Anatomy. I don’t watch the show – probably because I’m too busy watching high class TV like Wife Swap, Beauty and the Geek, or I Love New York.

So, Isaiah Washington calls T.R. Knight a faggot on the set and bedlam ensues. It’s shitty and way not cool, but we all know ABC probably won’t end up doing anything. Sure, they’re pissed about the controversy, but run the risk of losing a main character on their award-winning show? Not likely.

Personally, I just decided I love John Mayer even more after reading his response on how to deal with the issue at hand:

I would like to offer my suggestion for a solution; produce an episode of Grey’s Anatomy in which Mr. Washington’s character, Dr. Burke comes out to his friends and colleagues as a gay man!!! What better way for an actor to get to the roots of his discrimination than by portraying the very the subject of his own ire for the remainder of his contract? That’ll learn ya!

if we had more spare time

My friends and I, we do a lot of funny stuff. We can’t help it, we’re just awesome that way. It’s not usually planned and it’s never really too well thought out and I think that’s mainly because we have things like jobs. There are times, though, when I come upon some funny videos online and I can’t help but wonder if we were all unemployed what would happen.

I laughed the entire time I was watching videos at Jokeroo.com. Because really, if we had access to a backyard and a four-wheeler, I have no doubt in my mind that this would eventually happen. Only we might wear a helmet. No, never mind. We wouldn’t.

I’m glad my night has been so productive. I can’t help it, though. Asinine online videos are one of my biggest time sucks ever and this site isn’t helping matters much!
