update on the plague

December 10th, 2006 | 1 Comment | Posted in Lists

I’m still sick. I figure if I’m not better by Tuesday, when I’ll be at the clinic anyway for physical therapy, I might visit my old friends at Urgent Care. It’s been almost two months since I’ve been there. I’m sure they miss me and I wouldn’t want to lose my VIP status.

Jodi posted this a while ago, but I just got around to watching it and would like to introduce all of you to my brand new boyfriend.

Riley and I watched the AKC/Eukanumba National Championship today, or at least the part Riley should pay attention to – the working class division. The boxer in the show got 2nd. Riley would have gotten first, I’m sure, as evident from how hard he was working while watching it:

the plague lingers on

I thought I had this sickly thing just about beat, but turns out that was just a joke. It’s so bad I just spent two hours on the couch watching an Olsen twin movie on TBS. What this plague seems to be forgetting is that I have plans for this evening, thankyouverymuch.

my gift giving policy

December 8th, 2006 | 1 Comment | Posted in Family

And mainly it only applies to my family, and by family, I mean my parents and brother.

When I ask you what you want for Christmas, I would like some ideas. Not my dad’s ideas of underwear and socks, because I can only wrap up so many packs of boxers every year, before it gets boring. And not my mom’s idea of an $8 magazine subscription. Dear parents, I have a job. I can buy you real gifts, as evident from years in the past, but I just want to get you something you will use and/or like. Not wear to cover your balls, Dad.

And my brother is another story. He occasionally reads here, so I can’t go into detail. But he’s about as helpful as the my broken stapler when it comes to telling me what he wants. I had planned to hook up with a ticket to Vegas for Christmas to come with me in January, but he won’t give me an answer and airfare’s gone up. So I took my own route, and pretty much have him all taken care of. Which is sad, because I just found what I should have gotten him instead. Why, radar guns, of course.

Maybe next year, my little brother, you’ll learn to ask for things and not force me to pick out random things for you.

best christmas shopping ever

My friends* and I are having a gift exchange sometime before Christmas. We didn’t draw names or anything like that. We’re just getting presents for everyone. With one little catch. You only spend $3 per person. There’s a total of ten of us, so the most we’ll be spending? $27 (obviously you don’t buy gifts for yourself).

I’d been pretty worried about my quality and quantity of gifts lately, as I’d only found one gift that was just perfect for someone and had picked up a couple of half ass items in Target’s Dollar Spot that I wasn’t too keen on giving to anyone in particular. But hello, Family Dollar! I finished three people there today, started on a fourth, and even bought myself a cable knit hat and a prop I may need for our Christmas pictures. The best part? I spent less than $12.

*friends seems like such a feeble term for these fine folks, but I don’t know how else to describe them, aside from AWESOME, without sounding like a girl and you know how I hate sounding like a girl.

strokes sounds dirty

As much time as I spend on the internet updating here or anywhere else, reading celebrity gossip, or IM’ing with people, I’ve always thought it would be overly interesting to use some type of keylogger software, just to see what kind of patterns I follow when online.

Like, do I look my blog’s stattracker and then read other blogs? Or do I obsess at WordWhomp on Pogo.com for an hour before I read CNN.com? How many times, while at work, do I type the word DUDE in an instant message conversation? How many times a day do I go to The 3 Day’s site to see how many donations are team has and if we’re still in the top five fundraising teams?

I’m 99% sure my internet-browsing habits are patterned in some type of obsessive manner and while it may not seem normal to nobody else, I’m sure it would make absolute perfect sense to me. Maybe.

the best thing you’ll ever do

December 6th, 2006 | 1 Comment | Posted in The 3 Day '07

Melissa just posted why she’s doing The 3 Day. Our team is currently ranked #4 in the Twin Cities right now.

Our goal is to have 15 people join our team – either by walking or by being part of the crew. As a team, we currently have our fundraising goal set at $30,000. That’s enough to buy a nice car. And our fundraising (i.e. our holiday cookie sale) is just getting underway.
I like how Jenni describes our team and why we do what we do:

team boobylicious is back for the third time in 2007! we have both 3-day veterans and brand new teammates this year. we have walkers and crew members. and we are ALL committed to another great year, and another 60 miles!

we love that the 3-day can be such a lighthearted, upbeat event that deals with such a serious issue. team boobylicious is all about having fun while raising money and awareness. we want to help find a cure for breast cancer, so we never have to see our friends and relatives suffer again.

please join us on our journey!

No matter where you live or whether or not you know someone that’s been effected by breast cancer, The 3 Day is something you should consider doing. Whether you walk or you crew, your efforts will not go unnoticed and it will truly be one of the best things in your life you could possibly do,

Thanks to this link (provided to me by Matilda444), I believe I do have the flu. NEAT.

I guess I’m excited that I caught it early. But not so much excited that my flu shot seems to have failed me!

i kind of miss hair metal

Two months ago, I got a flu shot. And for the past month and a half, I’ve been taking Flintstones vitamins every day.

I should clearly be invincible to sickness!

But I am not. I just slept 14 hours straight, and still feel like dookie. I’m hoping Golden Grahams and The Most Awesomely Bad Love Songs on VH1 band together to zap out any type of virus/bacterial infection that might be trying to infect me.

It finally happened.

K-Fed took Britney Spears out of his top 8 on myspace.com. That relationship is to the point of no return now!

And you guys wonder what I do in my free time…

Ever since The Great Blog Discovery by Co-Workers in 2006, I’ve refrained a lot from talking about work in great detail. But now I’m not so worried about it since a) I don’t really get a chance to blog at work anyway and b) I write about my co-workers other places anyway. Having said that, now I can tell you about my weekend.

Friday: I got to completely geek out band-geek style. Hardcore even.

Jenni and I went to the University of Minnesota Gopher hockey game and ended up right next to the Gopher Hockey Pep Band. HOLY AWESOME. It absolutely made me miss the seven years of every kind of band class possible I could take during my middle school and high school days. The game ended in a tie, which I’ll never understand, because how is it even a game if nobody wins? As soon as I can figure out what freakin’ penalties are being called, I’m scared I may become obsessed with hockey… like I am with any other sport.

After the game, we went to Palmer’s Bar to wait for Matt, who was going to join us for a show across the street at Nomad World Pub. We just had a couple of drinks at Palmer’s, which is good, because anymore and I may have died t hanks to their incredibly strong drinks.

A co-worker/buddy of mine started Jack Brass Band, so I thought we should check it out. And I’m glad we did, because they were incredibly awesome. They’re an 8ish piece band that fancy themselves, according to their website, “the only New Orleans style brass band in Minneapolis”. If that’s code for awesome, then I totally agree. We missed the beginning of their set, but what we did see was absolutely enough for me to go back next time they play locally. (I’m so the worst music reviewer in the world.)

Saturday: Hi. I slept until 3 p.m. I had good reason. I met up with The Girls at Pizza Luce, where we had a pre-show dinner after we’d all driven around trying to find a parking spot for half an hour. After shivering our way through dinner, we headed outside and walked the few blocks to O’Donovan’s to wait for Matt. We shivered there some more before running across the street to First Ave to see the Doomtree Blowout, baby. I’d heard a ton about Doomtree and their crew from Jenni and I’m so glad I finally got to check them out. Bad. Ass.

I was so drained from the day before, though, that I left around midnight. But holy shit, the two-ish hours we were there (was it even that long?) were way awesome. I mean, hello? White rappers. You know how I feel about white rappers!

In any case, it was a weekend full of great music and that’s not something I can complain about at all.
